From the Presbytery Leader
Hi! Ryan here. Thank you so much for your prayers these last two weeks as I recovered from COVID! My atypical immune system was hit harder than I was ready for but still not as bad as I’d feared, and I was fortunately able to avoid hospitalization as experienced from illnesses in 2002 and 2019 (my wife Danielle is ok too!). A rough first seven days, then another week of severe chronic fatigue. At this time, I have now enjoyed two full working days, but I promise I will continue to take it steady. Will be ready to give my report at this week’s presbytery gathering. Even though I am now negative for COVID, I will continue to wear my mask, distance, and do the elbow bumps so a common cold doesn’t tip me back over. Thank you so much for your flexibility over changed plans and altered schedules. I do ask you to continue to be safe, and pray for safety for those at risk for this disease and its (sub)variants, for those suffering persisting long COVID symptoms, and for all of us still grieving the personal and communal impacts of the pandemic, even as we still process them.

PW Bible Drive for Hospitals

The Presbyterian Women of Giddings Lovejoy are sponsoring a Bible Drive to support the Barnes Jewish Hospital Spiritual Care Service. From now thru August 31, 2022, we will be collecting NEW non-King James bibles for their Chaplains to distribute as needed. The Chaplains requested non-King James bible translations as they are exposed to a lot of different people and would like to provide alternative translations, particularly to those new to the Christian faith. The bibles need to be new due to hospital protocols. The hospital is concerned about germs and any allergens associated with used/gently used bibles. Let's face it, the times we live in (Covid-19) are also a concern.
The attached flyer provides information on the ways you can help support this cause! Let's continue to show our community how Presbyterian Women show up and support a worthy cause! Click Here for Flyer
Tips for Caring for God's Amazing Creation:
Green your Church Grounds
One way of caring for Mother Earth is to make sure your grounds are environmentally sustainable. Stop using fossil-fuel based fertilizers as well as chemical pesticides, including herbicides. Plant plants that are native to the area. Plant a garden.
'TIPS' is brought to you by the Earth Care Work Group of the presbytery. Contact: [email protected] or 314-941-9378 with questions or comments.
St. Andrews Charitable Foundation
18th Annual Ageless Remarkable
Saint Louisans Gala
Recognizing Impactful Seniors While Supporting Seniors in Need
Saturday, October 1st

One of those amazing seniors is our own, Diane McCullough
St. Andrew’s Charitable Foundation will host their 18th Ageless Remarkable Saint Louisans Gala honoring 11 inspirational Ageless Saint Louisans. The October 1st gala is at the Hyatt Regency St. Louis Downtown at the Arch. All funds raised will provide low-income local seniors with vital programs and services so they can live safely, independently, and healthy in their homes.
Each year a new “class” of Ageless Remarkable Saint Louisans age 70 years or better, who are actively making a tremendous impact in St. Louis through philanthropy, volunteerism, and leadership are nominated. These inspiring individuals are proof that, at any age, anyone can make a difference in our community and in the lives of others.
New Commissioned Pastor Class Forming
A Commissioned Pastor is a ruling elder in the Presbytery who, once training is complete, is eligible for limited pastoral services. Commissioned Pastors may, for example, moderate the session of a congregation to which they are commissioned, administer sacraments, and officiate at marriages where permitted by law.
Many current Commissioned Pastors in the presbytery serve as sole pastors of smaller congregations. Others use their training to strengthen leadership roles in their home churches and throughout the presbytery generally.
Many candidates for the Commissioned Pastor Program complete their training while also employed full-time.
2022 Tech Grants
The Vision Team, at its June meeting, approved releasing $16,000 to fund another round of tech grants. Congregations are invited to complete the application linked HERE which includes pertinent details. Grants are given to congregations seeking to establish or expand their online ministries. Please contact Liz Kanerva, Associate Presbytery Leader, if you have questions not answered on the application form.

Education Month
The Presbytery of Giddings-Lovejoy has offered educational opportunities for church support ministries within our boundaries, pre-pandemic, and we are pleased to announce we have planned new educational experiences for our presbytery members this year.

This September, each Thursday evening at 6:30 pm, we welcome you to join us in learning how to answer the call in some of the support ministries and missions of your church. If you are newly answering a call to serve, exploring answering your nominating committee, or just want a refresh of the call, please join us.
All sessions will be conducted online, using Zoom.
Registration is required and can be found below.
We provide scholarships and grants for educational programming, workshops, and seminary study to ordained pastors, commissioned pastors, and church program leaders.
