A Note From Mrs. Harper

Fall is in the air! Which means it's time for coats, hats, and mittens! Teaching your child how to put on their coat can take some patience. If you want an easy method, check out this video! We also recommend mittens instead of gloves. Students will play outside most days! Please remember to label their hats, mittens, and coats.

Thank you again to all of the preschool families that helped with our playground build! We could not have done it without your help!

October is the month of the Rosary. Students in all of our preschool classes are beginning to learn the Hail Mary prayer, and pray the Rosary. If you would like to continue this at home, check out this resource for teaching the Rosary to young children.

Preschool parties are meant to be a special time for the children.   We encourage you to join us for the parties to share this time with your child.  Please try to arrange your schedule so that each child can have at least one adult (mom, dad, grandma, grandpa or sitter) present.  This is one of the reasons that we have the rule of no siblings at parties.

If you need childcare during your child's party, sign up here  . If you are able to volunteer during another party time, it will be greatly appreciated!

ASQ:3 A Tool to Help Us Learn More About Your Child

During the month of November, you will be receiving a link via email to complete the Ages and Stages Questionnaire. ASQ-3 is a set of questionnaires about children's development. It has been used for more than 20 years to make sure children are developing well. A screening provides a quick look at how children are doing in important areas, such as communication, physical ability, social skills, and problem-solving skills. ASQ-3 can help identify your child's strengths as well as any areas where your child may need support. As a parent or caregiver, you are the best source of information about your child. That's why ASQ-3 questionnaires are designed to be filled out by you. You will only need 10-15 minutes. It's that quick and easy! To learn more about this tool, visit their website here.

Speech and Hearing Screening

We are pleased to announce that we will be offering speech screenings for our preschool students. We are partnering with Columbus Speech and Hearing Center to provide this service. This effort is being supported with SPiCE funds and will be provided at no cost to parents. This screening is optional and a permission slip is necessary to receive the screening.

The speech screenings will offer a brief survey of communication skills (speech sounds, what your child understands, how he/she uses words to communicate, flow and rate of speech and vocal quality) in order to identify children who may have or be at risk for problems with any of these areas.  If there appears to be any concern, your report will be marked "Recheck" or "Refer" and recommendations such as "Rescreen" or "a follow up  evaluation to thoroughly examine your child's communication skills is needed" will be noted.

The purpose of the hearing screening is to quickly identify the presence of a hearing impairment and/or middle ear problem.  Referrals and recommendations will be made following the screening including a suggestion for a complete audiological evaluation or a follow-up visit with your child's physician.

Our teachers are identifying potential candidates and may be asking for your permission to have your child screened.  If you have concerns and would like to have your child screened, please either call or email Hillary ( [email protected] 614-718-5825 extension 244) and we will send home the permission slip with your child. The screenings will be held on November 28, 2018.

Please note -- if your child is in the Hearts or Halos class and a screening is desired, you will be given a scheduled appointment for this day. This means that you will have to bring your child to Saint Brigid on this non-class school day.
