Dear Friends,
This Sunday, we celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of Jesus to Simeon. It was yet another declaration of Jesus, as an infant, as one who came to redeem, not a chosen group, but all of humanity. We will celebrate it with blessed candles being given to each family so they can be a light to enlighten the world, a world that is suddenly very dark.
It can often seem overwhelming to think of ways to be this light, but God only hopes we do whatever small thing we can. This upcoming month, one thing we can do is learn.
Each day during Black History Month (February), I will be sending out, via email and Instagram, a brief biography highlighting a variety of African Americans who have made a significant impact on our lives. Some are well known, like Mohammed Ali. Others have quietly changed our lives, like Garrett Morgan. Each week will have a theme: week 1 will highlight scientists, week 2, artists, week 3 will feature leaders, and the final week we'll learn a bit about innovators.
I know this sounds like a small thing, but understanding the impact these individuals have made on the fabric of our lives is an important step in our work in dismantling racism.
In the Way of Love,
Debbie

At our 10:00 am Holy Eucharist, we will have our Candlemas procession as we bless candles for the upcoming year. We will also have our Birthday Blessing and Prayer. Deb Papps will lector, Joanne Moar will chalice, and Peggy Carter and Barbara Layne will usher. The Church School begins at 10:00 and then join us at the Peace. Light refreshments and coffee will be offered in the Lobby following the service. There is a signup in the Lobby for Coffee Hour hosts.
At our 4:00 pm Celtic Evensong and Communion, Paul Massari will assist, Greg Getschman will offer the reflection, Marianne Cannon will offer prayers, and Joanna Troy will greet and usher us as we arrive.
At 5:00 pm we will host our Artwork Gala. All are invited.
Services will be broadcast this week on our Facebook page. Leaflets may be found on our website.
Please join us wherever you are
in your search for meaning.

May light perpetual shine upon her:
Nancy Brown
Longtime member Nancy Jo Brown passed on Friday, January 17, 2025, at her Salem home surrounded by loved ones. Nancy was the wife of Christine Reichert, with whom she shared 24 years, and the daughter of the late Frank and Kathaleen (Fair) Brown.

Streaming Change
The Vestry and Rector, after discussion, have decided to move our streaming of the services from Facebook to Youtube. We are greatly disturbed by the lack of concern for hate speech on Facebook, yet wish to continue to offer live streaming for those who are more comfortable worshipping God with us at home.
Before this can happen, we need a few more of us to subscribe to our channel. Please consider doing this by clicking this link
www.youtube.com/@graceepiscopalchurchsalem3213 and then clicking the "Subscribe" button.
For the next few weeks, we will continue to stream on Facebook until we have enough subscribers.
