ECC Families,

Good evening. I hope everyone is recovering from the short week and exciting snowfall we had last weekend! Let's hope the winter weather will hold out for a little bit longer. This weekend we celebrate the first Sunday of Advent! December is here and the hustle and bustle of the season has begun. Here at Presentation ECC we will be preparing Christmas gifts, holiday decorations, practicing our Christmas songs, and most importantly preparing our hearts for the birth of Baby Jesus. All of our teachers have been provided additional Advent resources to use in their classrooms to help teach the importance of these next four weeks. On Tuesday, Fr. Tom, will join us to help light our first Advent candle and give us all a special blessing to begin the Advent season. I urge you to step back from all of the noise of the commercial Christmas and spend some time each day getting your heart ready to receive Christ on Christmas Day. Our Advent resource table is located up front and has several options to help you prepare. Have a great evening!

God Bless,

Catherine M. Koob

Advent is Here
This Sunday we will begin the Advent season. The first candle on the Advent wreath will be lit and we begin preparing our hearts and minds for the birth of Jesus. At Presentation ECC we will light our first Advent candle on Tuesday morning and we will continue to light a new candle each week. With the lighting of our first candle Fr. Tom will be present to give us all a special blessing and share with the children why we are lighting these special candles each week. Take some time to reflect on the words below from Deacon Ambrose Dobrozsi and watch the Advent video to the right. Also feel free to take some Advent resources from the table up front in the office area.

The first Mass of Advent begins with the first Sunday’s entrance antiphon, “To you I lift up my soul, O my God. In you, I have trusted; let me not be put to shame.” (Psalm 25:1) We typically think of this time leading up to the 25th as a preparation for Christmas – a preparation for our Christmas parties and presents; a preparation of our homes’ decorations; and, of course, a preparation of our hearts to remember the infant Jesus. So, lift up your soul to God now, in this time of preparation. Get your heart ready to receive Christ by trusting in God alone, before any of the sentimental or commercial parts of the holiday season. Plan your Mass for Christmas before you plan your Christmas party. In this way, by trusting first in the grace, mercy, and love of Jesus Christ, we will not be put to shame when He comes on the last day.
Project Shining Star
Christmas Day is right around the corner and it is time to remember those children who are less fortunate than our own. Every year Presentation ECC participates in Project Shining Star in which through Catholic Charities of Kansas City we help supply gifts to families so their children can have a special present under their tree as well. Each of our classes will be assigned our "adopted" children. Your child's teacher will have a way for you to choose an item to bring in for classes adopted child. Please do not wrap your item just bring it in to your child's teacher between now and the morning of Tuesday, December 11. Your teacher will attach a special tag and then the children will put all of the items under the Christmas tree. All items will be picked up by a representative from Catholic Charities on Tuesday, December 11. If you have any questions please contact your child's teacher. Thank you for your support!
Christmas Program 12/11 & 12/13
Our preschool Christmas program will take place on two evenings. Our part-time classrooms, Ms. Kim, Ms. Margaret and Ms. Susie/Carlene (preschool) will perform on Tuesday, 12/11 and our full-time classes, Ms. Anne, Ms. Abby, Ms. Char, Ms. Nancy, Ms. Amanda, Ms. Eileen/Abby, Ms. Caitlin, Ms.Kay and Ms. Carmen will perform on Thursday, 12/13. Both programs will begin at 6:30 pm. Please review the invite linked below. We look forward to a great evening.

Christmas Season Attendance
During the Christmas season we realize many families will be spending additional time together, traveling out of town or just taking a break. Many of our staff and teachers will be doing the same and in order to make sure we are adequately staffed during this time we are asking families to fill out the Christmas attendance sheets located outside your child's classroom. We appreciate you taking the time to do this so we can prepare with the appropriate amount of subs for classrooms whose teacher will be gone.
Inclement Weather Information
With winter right around the corner we will be dealing with inclement weather from time to time. Our center does not automatically close when OLP school closes or LS school district. We make the determination on our own. We take into account several different factors when we decide to close or close early. It is never an easy decision to make so we appreciate your understanding. Below you will find our closing procedures. You should always receive a remind and be able to find updated information on our website as well.

Closed for Christmas
Our center will be closed on Monday, December 24 through Wednesday, December 26. May you have a blessed Christmas with your family and friends.
New Remind Group for 2018-2019
In an effort to keep our communications as up to date as possible we will have a new remind group for the 2018-2019 year. I will keep both groups up until after the first week of school then I will delete the current remind group and only the @eccfam1819 group will remain. Remind is the text app we use to keep all of our families up to date on important information. Below you will find a link to the new remind group for this year.
