Presentation of Mary Academy ePathways

January 2015

Warm winter greetings PMA friends and family,

'Tis the season of acceptance letters!   On February 1 letters will be mailed to those selected to join PMA's Class of 2019.  With a record number of completed applications and a talented pool of students, admission was extremely competitive this year.  We know the Class of 2019 will capably fill the big shoes of our graduating Class of 2015.  This talented group of seniors is also receiving acceptance letters.  As of this writing, seniors have been accepted to dozens of colleges and universities, including UMass Lowell, Emmanuel College, Texas A & M University, Delaware Valley College, Regis College, Rivier University, Merrimack College, and Saint Anselm College.  We will keep you posted as the letters continue to come in.

As usual, there so much going on on our campus.  It is hard to believe, but we  are mid-way through the school year.   Take a look at some of our happenings in this edition of Presentation of Mary Academy ePathways!

Around Campus
MARCH FOR LIFE 2015

Thirty-five students,  PMA's Campus Ministers Jenn Brooks and Katie McGrath,  School Nurse, Janice MacDonald, and Sr. Jackie Lambert, headed to our nation's Capital on January 21, 2015 for the 42nd annual March for Life.   This powerful event began as a small demonstration on the day the Supreme Court invalidated 50 state laws and made abortion legal through the historic Roe v. Wade decision. The largest pro-life rally held in the world, this year hopes to bring attention to pre-born babies diagnosed with fetal abnormality, celebrating the theme that "Every Life Matters."  Our PMA pilgrims joined over 750 young people from the Archdiocese of Boston and tens of thousands of their peers from around the nation for a Rally and March on the National Mall.   They also celebrated Mass with Cardinal Sean O'Malley and had time for Adoration of Blessed Sacrament and to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  This was a life changing and moving event for all participants.
BRINGING BOYS' VOLLEYBALL TO PMA

Boys' Athletics continues to grow at PMA.  Boys currently compete in cross-country, basketball, and track and field. It is our hope to have a boys' varsity volleyball program ready to compete in the spring.    Students interested in playing are welcome to participate in upcoming clinics to gain an understanding of the game, develop some basic skills, and have fun. Interested students should see Mr. Scammon for more information.

BOYS' BASKETBALL PAYS IT FORWARD

During the Christmas season the PMA Boys' Basketball team sponsored a Coats for Kids drive, in conjunction with Anton's Cleaners.  They called for donations at their December 17th home game opener.  They collected coats for both children and adults that were later given to Anton's to be cleaned and distributed to those in need within the community.

The team also worked together with the Methuen Board of Trade to fill Christmas stockings to be given to our local veterans.  The Methuen Board of Trade supplied the stockings and our students filled them with such items as paperback books, DVDs, shampoo, lip balm, stamps, pocket games, crew socks, toothbrushes, and many other personal care items that would make the day of these local heroes.  These stockings were to show appreciation to our vets and were brought to area VA hospitals spreading holiday cheer to those who really needed it.

We are proud of you, boys.  What incredible ways to pay it forward!

2015 CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK

PMA will join other Catholic Schools from around the nation to observe National Catholic Schools week from Sunday, January 25, 2015 to Saturday, January 31, 2015.  This is the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. Through special planned activities, we will focus on  the value Catholic education provides, as well as its contributions to our church, our communities and our nation.  The highlight of this week for us is Grandparents Day, which we will celebrate on Friday, January 30.

PMA invites grandparents and other special individuals to join us for our annual Grandparents Day Celebration. Grandparents will attend a class, enjoy a light lunch and celebrate Mass with the PMA community.  If you have any questions, please call. Students whose grandparents are not able to attend, may invite a relative or family friend. We also have some of the sisters in the residence who would like to be "adopted" for the afternoon.  Please RSVP by January 28, 2014 by calling 978-682-9391, Ext. 100.
