Preservation Action Alert - Call to Action

San Diego’s Preservation Ordinance in Jeopardy

On Thursday, October 26, at 1pm the Historical Resources Board (HRB) and the public will receive an informational-only presentation from city staff on the Independent Budget Analyst (IBA) report recommendations that were released this past summer.

The IBA report found that the city's preservation program does not unduly impede permit processing, but nonetheless made recommendations to weaken the city's historic resources ordinance. These recommendations are not supported by any rigorous empirical or data-driven studies to support the need for these measures! The IBA report is a classic case of misdirection by anti-preservation activists.

This is our first opportunity to respond to the IBA report and make it known to HRB members that the report's recommendations are not only unsubstantiated, but bad policy. Please be aware: The IBA report is a BIG DEAL. It is the first time in years that the city is considering revising the historic preservation ordinances and we anticipate that the anti-preservations will be testifying as well.

Are you dissatisfied with what you see happening to San Diego’s historic neighborhoods, where you live, work or play? Then please join us in making our voices heard!

Agenda

Item-1 Report from the Office of the Independent Budget Analyst

Information Item Only

The Office of the Independent Budget Analyst will present their report titled, Response to Request for Analysis of Potential and Designated Historical Resources Review, which was prepared at the request of the City Council President.

SOHO and a coalition of historic neighborhoods stakeholders have responded to these recommendations with a detailed letter and are asking for your help.

This is your call to action to let the HRB and the city know your thoughts on the IBA report.
