Registration for Virtual Historic Preservation Advocacy Week is Now Open!
While we'll miss being able to meet in-person with all of you, we're excited to have an even bigger impact with the potential of reaching more members of Congress and allowing more advocates to bring our message of preservation-positive legislation directly to lawmakers.
Preservation advocates we're fortunate to be one of the last groups on Capitol Hill last year, just before the pandemic brought everything to a halt. This year, will be a critical time for advocates to make their voices heard. A new Congress was sworn in, including dozens of new members, new committee leadership and membership, and new policy goals that could impact critical historic preservation protections and programs.

National Park Service Now Accepting Applications for HBCU Preservation Grants and Underrepresented Communities Grants
The National Park Service is now accepting applications for $10 million in funding for the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) Preservation Grant Program. This important grant program, funded through the Historic Preservation Fund (HPF), helps preserve the historic structures on HBCU campuses. Since the 1990's the program has awarded more than $60 million to preserve historic structures on over 80 HBCU campuses. The program was fully funded at $10 million in fiscal year 2020 and again in 2021. The grants are open to National Register of Historic Places properties at accredited HBCUs. Applications are due March 31st.
The National Park Service is also accepting applications for $750,000 in funding for the Underrepresented Communities Grant Program. This program, also funded through the HPF, aims to diversify the National Register of Historic Places. The program supports the survey, inventory, or nomination of new sites or amending of previous listings to the National Register or as a National Historic Landmark, that help tell the stories of communities that are currently underrepresented. Since 2014 the program has awarded almost $3 million in grants. The FY21 year end spending bill increased funding for this important program to $1 million. The program is open to State and Tribal Historic Preservation Offices, Federally Recognized Tribes, Alaska Native Groups, Native Hawaiian Organizations and Certified Local Governments. Applications are due by March 31st.

Nominations for the 2021 List of 11 Most Endangered Historic Places are Due Monday Feb 1st

The National Trust for Historic Preservation is now accepting nominations for the 2021 List of America's 11 Most Endangered List of Historic Places. Do you know an important historic site that could benefit from the national spotlight? Nominate the site to be included on the 2021 Most Endangered List. Submissions are due by February 1st at 11:59pm EST.
When evaluating a potential site for inclusion on the list, the National Trust considers a range of factors, including its significance, whether there is a local group engaged in its preservation, the urgency of the threat the site faces, and potential solutions to that threat. As part of the National Trust's commitment to telling the full American story, they are particularly encouraging nominations for places that illuminate a unique or overlooked aspect of American history and that expand our understanding of our shared national heritage. Applicants are strongly encouraged to reach out 11most@savingplaces.org to discuss your site before submitting your nomination.
