We Had a Great Time in Washington, DC!
Thank you to everyone who joined us in Washington, DC last month! From the halls of the Capitol to the rooftops of the US Chamber of Commerce and Mies van der Rohe's MLK Jr. Memorial Library, we learned so much from each other and had a wonderful time doing it.
Our colleagues at the National Trust report that advocates had more than 220 meetings with Congressional offices during Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill. Way to go, and keep it up! Now that Congress members are back in their districts, we've got an important window of opportunity to reach them before they return in November. More urgent advocacy calls to action below!
If you've got photos from the event, we'd love to see them! Send them to Juliana. And if you attended and haven't completed it yet, help us host great future events through the post-event evaluation>.

11/9: URGENT ACTION NEEDED: Defend America’s Historic Preservation Protections Before November 9
From the National Trust for Historic Preservation
The Senate is expected to vote on November 9 on legislation that could fundamentally weaken America’s historic preservation protections. We have little time to act—and the stakes could not be higher.
The proposed permitting reform bill, The Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act (S.5653), would make sweeping changes to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, threatening meaningful consultation with Tribal Nations, preservation offices, and local communities while limiting which historic places receive protection. These changes could permanently weaken one of our nation’s most important tools for protecting historic places and ensuring communities have a voice in decisions that affect them.
We need every voice in the preservation movement engaged now.
-
Call your senators immediately. Urge them to oppose The Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act and reject provisions that undermine historic preservation protections.
-
Mobilize your networks. Share this call to action with your members, supporters, and community partners. Encourage everyone to contact their senators by phone and email.
-
Amplify the message. Use social media, submit op-eds, and engage local leaders to make clear what is at stake for historic places and communities nationwide.
-
Make your voice heard in person. Attend town halls and request meetings with Senators and their staff in your state or virtually.
November 9 is a critical moment for the future of historic preservation in America. We cannot afford to wait. Every call, every message, and every advocate matters. Please act now and help ensure that Congress hears a strong, nationwide call to protect our historic places and the communities that depend on them.
Ongoing: Share Section 106 Success Stories
- Share Section 106 Success Stories that demonstrate the importance of public input and review with our national partners to help with advocacy efforts. Submit your stories now>

THE PETER H. BRINK LEADERSHIP FUND
Have you heard from a colleague about a program that you'd like to implement? Would you like to visit their community to learn more? There's a fund for that!
The Peter H. Brink Leadership Fund helps to build the capacity of existing preservation organizations and encourages collaboration among these organizations by providing grants for mentoring and other peer-to-peer and direct organizational development and learning opportunities. The purpose of these grants is to support the leadership and effectiveness of staff and board members of preservation organizations to fulfill their mission and to create a stronger, more effective preservation movement. By linking organizations with specific skills/programs to those seeking to develop similar abilities, the fund promotes individualized mentoring and the sharing of expertise. Valuable lessons can be learned from someone who has successfully navigated the same situation that an organization currently faces. Grants support travel costs and mentor honoraria with a maximum reimbursement of $2,500. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
