Dear Nancy,

Walking into the Frederick Douglass Museum and Cultural Center, you immediately know that it is more than a museum.

The FDMCC embodies the spirit of a place where the power of a community came together to rejuvenate and strengthen, where great minds worked together to build our future.

"Our history is our power."

-Governor Wes Moore

For over 30 years the museum has preserved the story of the immense accomplishments of not only Frederick Douglass, but also E.B. Henderson, Mary Church Terrell, Charles and Laura Douglass, Paul Laurence Dunbar, Charles Drew, and countless others. At the FDMCC you will find inspiring stories of triumph over adversity that is the power of the African American experience.

As Governor Wes Moore reminded us when he spoke at this year's 130th celebration of the founding of Highland Beach, for African Americans, the knowledge of our history is our strength.

When we know our history, we know that there is nothing that we can’t accomplish.

Today, in a country where books are being banned, topics crucial to our history can’t be discussed, and teachers are not free to teach the truth about Black history, the museum is a vital resource.

Additional community outreach is part of our near-term initiatives.

Your financial support of the FDMCC is as important now as ever.

Past campaigns were focused on developing a period bedroom on the second floor – a project that is being re-thought following a recent structural assessment of the building. As the year-end approaches, we ask that you help the museum continue its important mission.

Donate Today: Preserve our History, Preserve our Power.

Your donation this year will allow the museum to create new and revitalized exhibits, develop a new booklet that tells the stories of noteworthy families and their historic homes many of which are still part of the Highland and Venice Beach communities, and work with experts from the National Museum of African American History and Culture to digitize and chronicle the oral histories and other documents of significance that are part of the museum archives.

At this pivotal time in our history, we ask you to embrace the power of giving and support the Fredrick Douglass Museum and Cultural Center with a year-end contribution. The FDMCC is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Your contribution via credit card or check is fully tax-deductible.

Thank you for your consideration as we work together to preserve the history of the African American community for generations to come.

Sincerely,

Jean Langston, FDMCC Executive Director
