Preserving the Beauty of Lake SRS 2, also known as Swan Lake: A New Approach to Waterfowl Management
As part of the Association’s ongoing commitment to maintaining the beauty, cleanliness, and health of the Association’s outdoor common area, the HOA is introducing a thoughtful and creative solution to a familiar challenge, managing the presence of waterfowl around Lake SRS 2.
While many residents appreciate the natural charm of coots (mud hens) and geese, others have raised concerns about turf damage and the mess these birds can leave behind on hardscape and lawns. In response, and with care for both the environment and the community, the Association is experimenting with a humane and imaginative deterrent.
Introducing Artificial Coyotes
Six realistic coyote decoys will be strategically placed around Lake SRS 2. These lifelike figures mimic natural predators, helping to reduce bird activity for the purpose of keeping the lake’s perimeter and neighboring hardscape cleaner, and minimizing damage to the surrounding turf. Keeping the areas cleaner will not only improve aesthetics, but it also reduces the likelihood of someone slipping and injuring themselves due to waterfowl feces.
This pilot project reflects an innovative approach, respect for nature, and care for the common areas that the Association membership enjoys. This method has been highly successful at nearby communities. We appreciate your support as we test this approach to maintaining the beauty of Lake SRS 2 and the surrounding outdoor space at PGA WEST.
Please do not move or handle the decoys, as their placement is important for their effectiveness.
