President Chandra's Bulletin
August 24, 2022
Fellow Rotarians!
This past week, we featured our own Dale Stinchfield, a 45 year Rotarian and a Past President of our Club. Dale's career as an accountant started out working for one of the Big 8 public accounting firms. He then opened Stinchfield & Co. in 1977 which was one of only two accounting firms in Laguna Niguel at that time. Although Dale has retired, the firm he founded, still has some level of existence having endured several name revisions as partners have come and gone through the years.
Dale provided us with a comprehensive timeline of taxation. From the Ancient Egyptians, to Greece and Rome, to the founding of the United States, it is evident that taxation is as old as civilization itself. Although we've been conditioned to believe that there's nothing more permanent than "death and taxes", the reality is that they are imposed for a variety of reasons and can ebb and flow drastically over the course of time. We forget that for a good portion of the 20th century, here in the United States, the highest income tax bracket was 90%! Another sobering note, - most new taxes levied are voted on and approved by the public.
Coming up this weekend, the City of Laguna Niguel’s Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the 3-day Sea Country Festival starting this Friday, August 26th through Sunday, August 28th. This end-of-summer event will include music, rides, games, food, and much more! Our club is hosting a booth. WE STILL NEED VOLUNTEERS! Please RSVP in the Sea Country Festival details below to assist in our Rotary booth. There are still a few shifts to fill for this weekend so that there are two volunteers per shift.

We have lots of projects and events to look forward to throughout the rest of year. Please mark your calendars! We are here to serve and appreciate the time and effort our members contribute toward our community.

Yours in Service,
Chandra Chell
2022-23 President

of the things we think, say or do!
First - Is it the TRUTH?
Second - is it FAIR to all concerned?
Third - Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Fourth - Will it be BENEFICIAL to ALL concerned?
