Fellow Rotarians!
It has been a busy past week. At our last meeting, we discussed and debated ideas for going forward into the new Rotary year. Which charities should we support? Should we consider changing the meeting time and frequency? How should we structure the dues payments? These were all very important questions for our club to revisit. Our meeting began with Stewart Mims leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Taje Gill then provided inspiration as he detailed his latest marathon experience during his recent visit to England. David Weiss stepped up to provide humor. Meeting guests included our Assistant District Governor, Dr. Sheila Steinberg, and Dee Gordon, the Event Communication Director from Heat Culinary.
Membership Chair Dave Weiss presented Ivy Leeson with her new membership package. Ivy had previously been a member of both the Long Beach and Signal Hill Rotary Clubs. She even served as President for Signal Hill Club. We look forward to her participation as our new Club Secretary! During our club discussion, many suggestions were made to not just giving funds to our charities but also being present and participating in their events. A few recent examples include participation in the the Earth Day event with the Niguel Botanical Preserve and the YMCA's Annual 5K Run in the Park on the Fourth of July.
There was no shortage of ideas of how we could help out our charities as well as how we could be more visible within our community. Our Assistant District Governor, Dr. Sheila Steinberg emphasized that we should focus on considering what types of charities and projects that we are passionate about and make those the pursuit for our club.
On Saturday July 16th, we held our Annual Club Transition Dinner at the home of Programs Chair and Past President Mark Montgomery. Immediate Past President Madame Kim Douglas conducted a lively roast of our Immediate Past President, Eileen Gomez which included passing on the tiara. Eileen then presented awards of service to her board. One very special medal award was presented to Mark Montgomery, from Cisca Stellhorn, our Past District Governor for his ongoing "service above self" to Rotary throughout the years.

Once I, Chandra Chell, as our new club president introduced the board, Past District Governor Cisca Stellhorn swore them all in. Both Eileen and I acknowledged just how much we've appreciated Immediate Past President Madame Kim's friendship and guidance. Throughout the evening, guests expressed their accolades, gratitude and well wishes toward Past President Eileen. She will be dearly missed by our club, as well as our community. We wish her all the best with her move to Las Vegas and hope she will eventually come back to Orange County. Of course, we'd like to also thank Mark & Shaun Montgomery for opening up their lovely home for our event. A big shout-out to Fratello's own Michael Darnell. He not only provided the catering, but also extended his bartending services too. Appreciate all the help from our members that served to make this annual event a very special occasion.

Yours in Service,
Chandra Chell
