President Eileen's News Flash!
April 22, 2022
To My Esteemed and Fellow Rotarians!
I hope you all had.a wonderful Easter weekend and were able to enjoy spending time with your family and friends! Since we did not have a regular lunch meeting last week, I would like to take this opportunity to announce one of our major accomplishments this year. During a pandemic, Rotarians still participated in meetings both virtually and in-person. We also continued our generous spirit of giving and helping those in need in our community. One of the ways we have shown our support is by generous donations of both time, and money. Our club roster is filled with like-minded individuals that have the best interest of our community at heart. We also all have a heart for our international families and have done our best to show our support for those in need around the world. I would like to thank each and everyone one of you for your kindness, your generosity, your time, and your amazing talents!
I am extremely proud and excited to announce that both Jim McGinley and Mark Montgomery will both be flying the blue skies on The Honor Flight on Friday! The Honor Flight Network serves veterans who served from World War II to the Korean War and through to Vietnam. They also serve catastrophically ill and injured veterans from all service eras. Jim and Mark will escort veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit our nation's memorials. He stated that they will also be visiting The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier where "mail call" will be announced and notes from people thanking them for their service will be handed to them.

The flight will leave from LAX on Friday, April 22nd, returning on Sunday, April 24th. Anyone interested to be part of the welcoming committee can meet at LAX at Terminal 1 at 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, April 24th. Jim and Mark will be taking hand-written cards to provide to the veterans from Rotarians that wrote kind messages to thank them for their service to our country.
WE STILL NEED VOLUNTEERS! The Niguel Botanical Preserve & The City of Laguna Niguel are coordinating an Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 23rd from 8:30am - 11:30am. Please click on the "I'll be there!" button below. We would love to have our Rotary Club represented by having as many volunteers as possible! We will meet at the Crown Valley Park Amphitheater by 8:00 a.m. to check in. They are asking for volunteers to plant, weed and clean up so I hope to see you all there so we can work together to keep our community looking beautiful!
As our Covid restrictions are minimized and we are finally meeting in person on a regular basis, it is time to celebrate and call for a Rotary Social Event! Our fabulous Membership/Social Committee Chair Caroline Swift, along with her committee members, would like to invite Rotarians to our first social, "Spring is in the Air" event on Thursday, May 12th at 5:00 p.m. at the new OC Local Taproom, located at 30100 Town Center Drive in Laguna Niguel! This social event will take the place of our regular meeting on Friday, May 13th. Please feel free to invite friends and guests to be introduced to Rotary and to hear all about the great things our club has to offer! We are hoping this will be a great post-Covid social event to mingle, socialize and to get to know each other again so we hope to see you all there! Caroline also announced that the Membership/Social Committee is working on our next "New Year, New Board Social" event to be held at the end of July so stay tuned!

We are always looking for great speakers in our community so please be sure to email any individuals in our community that you would like to have come out and speak to our club! We have lots of great programs scheduled so don't miss out!

Serving To Change Lives,

Eileen

Rotary Spotlight - Kim M Douglas
We have many long-time members that have been part of the Rotary Club of Laguna Niguel for over 20 years. We also have newer members that have made our club that much stronger. I would like to recognize our Immediate Past President, Madame Kim Douglas, as an exceptional member of our Club that has continued to go above and beyond her call of duty literally, every day! Her mentorship, love, and support for me, as well as our members each individually, has been the backbone of our Club! Her hard work and diligence in securing funding through our Club's Global Grant for surgical equipment for the COANIQUEM Burned Children Foundation resulted in a $50,000 contribution last year to this organization.
She continues to visit and reach out to Rotarians that are sick or have not been able to attend meetings. She sets up dinner and lunch meetings with members to talk Rotary in a relaxed environment. She sends the best text messages and emails keeping us all in line and eager to continue working towards our Club's goals every day! Her most notable accomplishment to date is making our Club a 100% Paul Harris Fellow Club!
She personally presented Paul Harris Fellow certificates and pins to every member that did not already have one. I am proud to be your President this year and am honored to highlight this accomplishment during my tenure! The Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, in the amount of $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation.
Madame Kim has made significant contributions throughout the years since her membership began in 2015 and has earned the prestigious White Hat Society designation, one of the highest levels of recognition. As donors increase their recognition levels through new gifts, they accrue points, which do not expire and can be transferred to other donors' accounts. If 1,000 points are transferred to one person, that individual becomes a Paul Harris Fellow.
Madame Kim has earned enough points through her generosity to help members that were not already Paul Harris Fellows, earn this prestigious recognition. Thank you Madame Kim for all you do for our Club, for Rotary, and beyond!

In a continued response to the deepening refugee crisis, the Rotary Foundation Trustees have decided to prioritize contributions made to the Disaster Response Fund until April 30, 2022, to support disaster response grants for districts affected by these events. These expedited disaster response grants can be used to supply water, food, medicine, shelter, and clothing. This is primarily an appeal for individual donations so please feel free to give any amount possible. Please follow the link below if you would like to make a person donation for this worthy cause.

First - Is it the TRUTH?
Second - is it FAIR to all concerned?
Third - Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Fourth - Will it be BENEFICIAL to ALL concerned?
