This is a bittersweet publication as I write my final President's News Flash for you! I hope you enjoyed reading all about the latest Rotary news as much as I enjoyed writing about it! This publication is dear to my heart as it provided me with the opportunity to keep in touch with you and to make sure all of our members were kept up to date with the latest Rotary news, even if you were unable to attend meetings. I did my best to make sure to highlight our amazing Rotarians at work and at home! Once a Rotarian, always a Rotarian! Someday, I hope we are at a place where everyone feels comfortable attending meetings in person again because it is always so great to have lunch with all of you!
I would also like to thank and acknowledge my exceptional board members, directors, and committee chairs for all their hard work and diligence during my year. We have so many exceptional Rotarians that attended meetings regularly and assisted me with conducting Rotary business! I would especially like to thank President-Elect Chandra Chell for her assistance with editing the President's News Flash publications throughout the year!
I am beyond blessed to have the opportunity to serve the City of Laguna Niguel as the President of this amazing Rotary Club! I am touched by the love and support shown to me during my presidency and beyond! I would like to thank each and every one of you for continuing your membership, staying engaged, and for showing me what Rotary is all about! I will cherish all the friendships I have acquired as a Rotarian, public servant, and community member, serving residents in this remarkable City!
President-Elect Chandra Chell and I had the pleasure of attending the Rotary District Denim & Diamonds End of the Year Celebration & Transition Dinner at Tanaka Farms which was an amazing event! All Presidents in District 5320 submitted our nominees for exceptional Rotarians and non-Rotarians in our communities and Laguna Niguel won 3 awards! Our Club won the Governor's Innovation Award for this year's President's News Flash! Next was my nominee Mark Montgomery for the Amazing Rotarian of the Year Award, which was well deserved! And finally, my nominee Scott Alevy, CEO for the Laguna Niguel Chamber of Commerce, won the Amazing Non-Rotarian/Community Partner of the Year! Congratulations to each and every one of you and to all of our members for this exceptional recognition!

I would now like to take this opportunity to invite all of you to "A Night In Tuscany Transition Dinner" on July 16th at 4:00 p.m. at The Montgomery Villa! Please see the information below with a link to purchase tickets! The tickets are $50 per person which includes dinner, dessert, wine, raffles and more!
We had a great meeting and a full house last week as we hosted our scholarship recipients and their parents! We also had a few visitors that picked a great meeting to attend! It was a special treat to have our visiting Rotarian Chuck Porter from the Indian Wells Rotary Club, lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance! Even our guests were in tears as we listened to the inspiration provided by our own Stewart Mims, as he spoke to the students about the future they will face as they launch into the world that is waiting for them! He read his updated version of a quote by Thomas Payne that was read to the troops on Christmas Eve in 1776, the night before the Continental Army crossed the Delaware to surprise the British forces in Trenton and winning the first badly needed victory in the war for independence. He stated, "These are the times that try men's and women's souls; the summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his or her country; but he or she that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly; it is dearness only that gives every thing its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as FREEDOM should not be highly rated." He congratulated them and wished them all well with their future endeavors. Well stated Stewart!
Our comedian for the day was Bruce Birkeland that shared a story about growing up in Tennessee and sported his cowboy hat and all! He shared a story about Bubba from Texas that needed a $1 bill and had us all laughing! We were honored to also have Marilyn McCloskey and Donna Mulvaney in attendance to show their support for the recipients of the Jerry McCloskey and Dennis Mulvaney Scholarships. We were all so proud of our students that came up to the podium to share their plans for their bright futures! I feel like we are in great hands and it gives me such pride and comfort knowing they will remember us as they pursue their hopes and dreams! It was an honor to receive a flag that was presented to Taje Gill by the Rotary Club of Wolverhampton in England during a Rotary Flag Exchange Ceremony he participated in while visiting their club!
We are always looking for great speakers in our community! Please be sure to forward names and email addresses to me for any individuals in our community that you would like to have come out and speak to our Rotary Club! We have lots of great programs scheduled and we look forward to many more with your help! We are planning some great programs so please be sure to join us for lunch on Friday's at noon so you don't miss out!

It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve as your President this past Rotary year! I wish you all the best in the upcoming year and am confident you will continue to be true examples of "Service Above Self" for our Club!

Yours In Rotary Friendship Always,

Eileen
