2015: The Year of India's Next Technology Revolution
The multibillion-dollar valuations of India's new tech stars, Flipkart and Snapdeal, are no pricing bubble, but a signal that the country's technology boom has begun. E-commerce, health apps and more are poised to make 2015 the launching point for India's technology revolution.
Institutional Investor magazine has named the Oberoi Mumbai as the best hotel in the world, a first for an Indian hotel. The magazine conducted a poll of senior business executives from 42 countries that spent 50 nights or more in hotels in 2014.
Joint Radio Programme by PM Modi and President Obama
"Mann Ki Baat," a local Indian radio program, featured Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Barack Obama to discuss their countries' bilateral relations. Indian citizens were encouraged to join their conversation using the hashtag #YesWeCan.
India will host the tenth World Hindi Conference later this year as part of efforts to popularize Hindi in the world, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said. The event is held every three years and was last held in Johannesburg, South Africa.
India Set to Become World's Fastest-Growing Big Economy
India is set to become the fastest-growing big economy in the world, clocking a 7% rise in GDP in 2017, the World Bank said. "In India, export growth has been robust, and investor confidence has been bolstered by election of a reform-minded government," the World Bank said.
India's 66th Republic Day was celebrated at the Indian Embassy on January 26. Charge d' Affaires Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu paid floral tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in front of the Embassy and unfurled the Indian National flag.
