Louis L. Levine, 95, President and CEO of the New York College of Podiatric Medicine (NYCPM), died on December 23rd in New York.
_Louis L. Levine had been President and Chief Executive Officer of NYCPM since 1991 and effected major changes at the school that vastly improved students’ education.

Cadavers Leap Into 21st Century with “Game-Changer” Virtual Dissection Tool
On January 20th, a ribbon-cutting ceremony unveiled NYCPM’s newest learning tool: the Anatomage Virtual Dissection Table, located within the college’s new Virtual Anatomy Lab on the second floor.
_A generous grant from The Podiatry Foundation enabled NYCPM to obtain one of the latest versions of this Interactive 3D Anatomy and Physiology Table: Table Version 9, released in September 2021. Lorraine Chun Ng, MLIS, NYCPM’s Medical Librarian, was instrumental in obtaining the grant, working with Anatomage and our IT Department to install the table and training the faculty. Dr. David R. Gregory Rose (2023) Named Winner of 2023 Michael L. Stone Award
Gregory Rose (2023) is the NYCPM winner of the 2023 Michael L. Stone, DPM Outstanding Professional Conduct Award, which is presented by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS). The prize was determined by the NYCPM Scholarship Committee, chaired by Susan Rice, DPM (1988), working in conjunction with the Department of Surgery. _Greg is now the National Student Representative for the ACFAS Membership Committee, the only student on the committee, which represents nine of the podiatric medical schools. Richard O. Schuster, DPM Biomechanics Seminar
The 10th Annual Richard O. Schuster, DPM Memorial Biomechanics Seminar, held November 19 and 20 at Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine in Miami, was co-hosted by NYCPM; seminar creator Joseph C. D’Amico, DPM, DSc was its scientific chair and the seminar was co-chaired by James Losito, DPM, MS of BUSPM.

Rahman Named ‘Commended Scholar’
Faiyaz Rahman (2024) was named one of six Commended Scholars by the APMA Educational Foundation and awarded $2,000 by The APMA Education Foundation Scholarship Committee as it selected the winner of its 2022 APMA-PICA full-tuition scholarship from among nominees from each of the nine podiatric medical schools. The winner was Andrew Attia, of the California School of Podiatric Medicine at Samuel Merritt University, and two students were finalists.

Paper Co-Written by Kayla Obradovic Accepted for Publication
Norman Wortzman, DPM (1979), Director of Podiatric Services at Massachusetts General Hospital, informed NYCPM that Kayla Obradovic (2023) and her collaborator, Adam Landsman, DPM, PhD, have had their manuscript titled, "An analysis of the economic impact of living cell tissue products in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers and venous leg ulcers in patients with commercial insurance; a retrospective matched-cohort study,” accepted for publication in Advances in Skin & Wound Care. In response, Eileen Chusid, Dean of Pre-Clinical Studies at NYCPM, offered special thanks to Dr. Wortzman for affording our students the opportunity. Obradovic had been selected by alumnus Dr. Wortzman to join his research team at Massachusetts General Hospital last spring.

Touro Gala Celebrates 50 Years and More
A glittering gala dinner at the Marriott Marquis celebrated not just the institution’s 50th anniversary, but also its elevation to university status – a significant accomplishment! The gala, which gathered folks from many of its member campuses, also honored five: Distinguished Honorary Degree Recipient Dr. Albert Bourla, CEO of Pfizer. plus four honorees: Alan Kadish, MD, president of TCUS; David Lichtenstein, CEO of The Lightstone Group; Robert Goldschmidt, MD, Dean of Students of Lander College of Arts and Sciences; and the Honorable Shelley Berkley, Senior VP of the Touro University System.

Alumna Wins NYSPMA’s Ronald L. Soave Award
Corrine E. Renne Landau, DPM (2006) was awarded the sixth Ronald L. Soave, DPM Integrity and Excellence in Podiatry Award at the Downstate Meeting of NYSPMA on December 8. Dr. Renne Landau is a past president of the Kings Division and founder of the award. She is a member of several committees, is lauded for her ability to bring people together and is the first female podiatrist to receive this award. The award was presented by Kings Division president Joseph Santi, (DPM), Nicholas D'Angelo, DPM (1989) and Dr. Soave (1982), Professor and Dean in NYCPM’s Division of Clinical Sciences. The event was attended by her husband, alumnus Laurence Landau, DPM (1992) and stepdaughter Samantha Landau, DPM (2018), MPH, instructor in NYCPM’s Department of Orthopedics/Pediatric Sciences. PADnet Workshop Demonstrates
Key Test
This photo was taken during a wound-care workshop in the Foot Center of New York. It was a demonstration of a vascular test called PADnet; this study is often ordered in the FCNY clinic and in practice. The test is used to diagnose peripheral arterial disease; the test identifies the presence of blockage in an artery and evaluates the quality of blood flow (in the lower extremity). NYCPM Volunteers to Support Special Olympics Athletes
A large contingent of NYCPM student, faculty and alumni volunteered in the “Fit Feet Healthy Athletes” area at the 2022 NYC Region Peter Aquilone Winter Classic hosted by Special Olympics New York on Saturday December 3rd at the Jacob K. Javits Center. The volunteers performed foot and ankle screenings, biomechanical exams, and evaluation of footwear for the Special Olympic Athletes. All the students are from the class of 2024 except for Janice Therese Bautista, who is class of 2023.

NYCPMers Volunteer at NYC Marathon
Faculty and students from NYCPM have participated with the medical team at the New York City Marathon for well over 20 years. This year, helping to lead foot care at the finish line medical tent at the TCS New York City Marathon were Samantha Landau, DPM (2018), MPH (center) of the Department of Orthopedics and Pediatrics, plus 2023 seniors Kayla Obradovic (left) and Shanay Fischer (right). They worked with podiatry captain Robert Fridman, DPM (2002).

Ugly Holiday Sweaters Rule for a Day
NYCPM’s second annual Ugly Holiday Sweater contest on December 8 decked the school’s halls with seasonal and festive outfits. The concept of the Student Wellness Committee, the school-wide contest was greeted with enthusiasm and the entries worn with pride.
