PRESIDENT'S CORNER

Kim Beynon, PMP, CPA, CGMA

PMINYC President, Board Director, Executive Coach and Speaker

To our PMINYC Community,

You may be wondering why the President’s Corner was not in the July newsletter – at least I hope you were😊. Our communications team suggested splitting the newsletter in half to be a bit more digestible. As a result, the President’s Corner and Pulse Survey will now be coming to you in a separate mailing. Starting in August, the events newsletter will be published on the 1st Wednesday of the month and the President’s Corner will be published on the third Wednesday of the month. Later in the year, I will include a pulse survey to see what worked best for you.

What a wonderful evening Tuesday night! I hope you all had as much fun as I did on the harbor cruise. I took away a few messages from our members to help plan for next year.

  • The private cruise, compared to a shared cruise, was preferred
  • Two hours was too short
  • We need a larger ship because demand far outstripped capacity

I appreciated the opportunity to spend time with so many of you. For me, it felt like a large family – I loved the sense of community that was so apparent. Here are a few pictures.

What an exciting first half of the year for PMINYC!

  • Increased engagement in our community
  • 9% increase in membership
  • Additional Sponsors
  • 6 sold out in-person events in a row

And...

One of the things that stood out to me was our lower than regional retention rate of 80% compared to 85% for our region. I am extremely interested to hear your thoughts on why this is the case - this is the topic of this month’s pulse survey. I want to take positive steps to address the situation and need your input and help to identify what is behind this stat and how we can address it.  Our lower retention rate will most likely negatively impact our chances of winning Chapter of the Year, but I have my fingers crossed we will prevail.

The regional numbers are based on an annual PMI Global survey which is planned to be conducted in November this year. We will alert you when their survey is out so that our community can come together again to raise up the NYC Chapter.

Hope you are all enjoying your summer so far! Personally, I am looking forward to some beach time soon – I find it restores my soul. Wishing for all of you some special time to recharge before we head into Autumn.

I am listening.

Until next month…

Kind regards

Kim

JUNE RESULTS

You voted. We listened.

Thanks to all who participated in the June survey! It was disappointing that only 33 people responded. I wonder if the UN Sustainable Goals are important to our membership given this response rate. The top three goals selected by the membership are Quality Education, Zero Hunger and Gender Equality. I asked the Board to answer the same question and the Board’s top three goals are Climate Action, Zero Hunger and Sustainable Cities and Communities. Based on these results we are focusing on Zero Hunger for now. The Outreach team hosted the first Zero Hunger event on July 21st. Check out the next planned event on August 15th,

We have additional events planned later in the year – keep your eye on the calendar for more opportunities to achieve zero hunger in NYC.

To understand the chapter members’ views on the  17 UN Sustainable Development Goals please review the results below.

In July, we are tackling the issue of member retention. As you saw in the Chapter of the Year Award criteria, our retention level is below the regional average. We need to peel back the layers of the onion to understand why, and we need your input to do so.  Because this topic is so important to us, our survey this month only has one question. Please help your community by responding so we can take the appropriate action to address member retention rates because when you speak, we listen.

  • PMINYC needs your help to decide on the top 3 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals we should focus on as a community.
  • If Zero Hunger Goal is in the top 3 selected, please let us know if you would be interested in volunteering for any of these potential events.
  • Would you be interested in attending a Chapter Meeting or other programming related to an ESG, environmental, social and governance topic?
