PMINYC

PRESIDENT'S CORNER

Kim Beynon, PMP, CPA, CGMA

PMINYC President, Board Director, Executive Coach and Speaker

To our PMINYC Community,

The 4th quarter always brings with it the energy and desire to finish the year strong. The lazy days of summer are behind us and we are revisiting that list of goals we made in January – knowing we may not achieve it all, but wanting to make sure we achieve the most important things on our list. PMINYC is no different: we, too, are looking to finish the year strong!

Even though we have increased our membership this year by 11% and enhanced the member experience, our volunteer numbers remain low – 3% to 4% of our membership. We are a 100% volunteer organization – no one is paid. The Chapter owes much to our small core of volunteers who keep this Chapter running. We have had requests to expand our programs and member perks but without your help that will not be possible.

Each department and committee have exciting initiatives underway. Just some of the areas in which we could use your help include event planning – the newly formed Programming Committee is designed to centralize the event planning process for the Chapter. We are standing up a data analytics team, so we fully understand what our membership wants. We are also investigating setting up a member area on the website so that members can connect with each other directly. Bringing back the Career Development Network is another priority. An initiative to reach out to young project managers is also under discussion along with a military outreach, but we will not be able to achieve these goals without you.

Volunteering is a rich and rewarding experience. You make life-long friends. You contribute to the profession. You enhance your own resume and learn new skills which you can apply both personally and professionally while earning PDUs. You are a member of a dedicated community who serves others. To top it off, we offer exciting events solely for volunteers. For example, we have a volunteer appreciation event coming up at the end of October at an exciting location.

🎉 Stay tuned for details coming soon! 🎉

There is not a long list of role descriptions on the website because we have found that speaking with potential volunteers and customizing the experience for them has been more successful. You may not have enough bandwidth to fulfill the responsibilities of a full position, but you could do some of the activities required and the role could be split.

Join our dynamic team and advocate for the project management profession. Help grow your community and make a positive impact now and for future generations. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Jill Wilkinson to have an exploratory conversation. I am sure there is a role that is right for you.

Let’s finish 2023 strong!

As always, I am listening.

Until next month…

Kind regards

Kim
