President's Desk Edition
From baby steps to leaps!
I’m very pleased to report that your Chamber is clearing the dark, rocky road of the past year to a brighter, smooth paved one. Like the arrival of spring, it feels great!
Our 2021 calendar is lighting up with the return of our signature events and regular B2B offerings. We’ve got our Inspire Awards on August 19, Annual Meeting & Awards Breakfast on September 30 and our late Autumn Business Showcase and Holiday Luncheon in the planning.
We’ve also introduced two new programs to assist our membership community during these comeback times – ChamberCARES and ChamberSHOP.
ChamberCARES is an initiative of the Chamber and our Education Foundation in support of a cause, program or service provided by a member non-profit organization. The Board of Directors will select our 2021 recipient later in the month.
ChamberSHOP promotes member-to-member business. Simply take a photo of a receipt from a Chamber member you did business with and email to us. Each week, we’ll pull one for a free member profile to be featured in our BizReach e-newsletter and on our social media platforms. You can find more details here: ChamberSHOP!
And lastly, as another sign of normalcy, we’re wrapping up design and listings for our 2021-2022 Central Pinellas Business & Community Go-to-Guide. Advertising sales close this month, so please act now. More information can be found below.
All this activity is a testament to your continued Chamber support and loyalty! I thank you!
Wishing you all a prosperous and enjoyable month,
           Tom Morrissette, President
Welcome! Florida Botanical Gardens Foundation
Vernon Bryant, executive director of The Florida Botanical Gardens Foundation, is a new Chamber member who recently attended our Chamber 101 New Member Coffee. The Florida Botanical Gardens opened in December 2000, converting 100 acres in the middle of the most densely populated county in Florida into a diverse garden paradise. The Foundation has been a major supporter of the gardens since its inception. Its events help promote community awareness and generate resources to support growth and enhancements. Admission to the Gardens is free. It’s open daily from 7am to 5 pm, except the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas. Entrances are located at 12520 Ulmerton Road, Largo and 12211 Walsingham Road, Largo. For more, please visit www.FLBGFoundation.org

Tampa Bay COVID Update! April 6, 2021
The COVID-19 Regional Re-Opening Dashboard tracks the critical and official public health metrics that guide Tampa Bay residents and policymakers to safely re-open our economy.
It’s produced by the Tampa Bay Partnership.
Case growth rates in Tampa Bay increased this past week, to 1,117 per day over the 14-day period ending April 4, versus the 997 reported the prior week. At 7.20%, Tampa Bay's positive testing rate over the past week remains below the 10% threshold outlined in state and federal re-opening guidelines, yet increased from last week’s rate of 7.07%. Statewide, the positive testing rate was also below the 10% threshold and rose from 6.15% to 6.51%. The 7-day rolling average of Tampa Bay patients hospitalized with a primary diagnosis of COVID-19 increased by 4.9% in the past week and, as of Sunday, 705 such patients were hospitalized. To date, 761,634 Tampa Bay residents – an estimated 19.1% of the region’s nearly 4-million adults – have completed their COVID-19 vaccine sequence.
