Hello, Jardineros!

There is a saying, that March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. There are times that is the case. Yes, we had some serious winds in early March. And the weather has warmed up and I'm even wearing shorts for some of my walks.

Aside from the mid-month crisis of submitting your income taxes, if you have not already done so, April is a busy month.

No April fool, we have a meeting on April 1st! The timing of the April speaker is excellent. Maria Thomas will be speaking to us on resilient landscapes. This environment does pose challenges.

As for more action in April, on April 4th, starting at 9am Cheryl Betterly will be leading the road clean up along the usual Mile 5-6. Cheryl needs to plan the supplies needed and with enough volunteers she is hoping to cover an additional mile. Please contact her directly if you are planning to participate.

Saturday, April 11th from 9am to 3pm is the Placitas Community Library's Spring Fling. I am told it's shaping up to be the most vibrant year yet. For the past two years, Jardineros Plant Whisperer members have played a big part in its success, and there are so many other fun ways for everyone to join in. Jardineros members are invited to donate baked goods, gently used home decor, books, CD's, or jewelry. Donations can be dropped off at the library on April 9th from 1:00 - 5:00 pm. Baked goods may be delivered on April 10th from 12noon - 3:00pm. If you need an alternate time, please contact the library directly.

Our own Jardineros Plant Whisperers will once again lead the ever-popular plant sale - a highlight of the entire event. Come browse a fresh selection of indoor and outdoor plants, chat with our on-site master gardener, and pick up helpful plant care handouts to take home.

The Community Service committee is celebrating Earth Day and leading a clean-up at the Placitas Trail Head Open Space. Please meet at 8am at the main parking lot, south side of Highway 165. Contact Tricia Lund if you are participating. See the attached notice for additional information.

Thinking forward, this year is the 250th anniversary of the Continental Congress adoption of the Declaration of Independence. Ivona McCrary is receptive to ideas for the Jardineros participation in the 4th of July parade. Please reach out to Ivona with your suggestions.

And a reminder that at the April meeting, Community Service is heading up a collection for God's Little Angels. This non-profit provides basic necessities, at no charge, to families with children in need.

See you in April.
