Dear Jardineros Members,
This summer is certainly flying by! And here we are in August with the heat rising and the rains subsiding – at least that is the outlook as I write this letter. Mark your calendars and join us for our meeting on Wednesday, August 7 in the cool temps of the Las Placitas Presbyterian Church. We will begin as usual at 9:00 with gathering and refreshments and proceed to our meeting at 9:30.
Our program on August 7 will bring more relief from the heat as Seth Betterly takes us on an adventure in Antarctica. Seth will share his experiences as part of scientific research team when he was in graduate school. He will regale us with everything from getting there to the extreme weather and pictures of penguins! You don’t want to miss this presentation. After our program we will break for more socializing and goodies and resume for our monthly business meeting.
Our Community Service Collection in August will be for Haven House. Haven House is the only domestic violence shelter for Sandoval County. We will hear more about the services they provide from Estella Weitz, Executive Director for Haven House, and Tracy Davis, Domestic Violence Counselor, at our meeting. Barbara Otter and Debbie Webster are the liaisons for this collection and will be accepting donations at this meeting. Please make checks payable to Haven House, Inc. and write “Jardineros Donation” on the for/memo line. If you are unable to attend this meeting, you can send a check to: Haven House, Inc. at P.O. Please take time to review the July 10 Jardineros Meeting Minutes. Minutes are posted in our annual binder on the Jardineros website (right side bar, click on 2024 meeting minutes link). In addition to the regular monthly meeting minutes, the minutes of the Board of Director meetings are also posted on the website. The Board met for the regular quarterly meeting on July 25, 2024. Those minutes will be posted in the near future. The next meeting of the Board is scheduled for 10:00 on October 10 at the Placitas Community Library. Only Board members are eligible to vote but all Jardineros members are welcome to attend the Board meetings.

Call for Jardineros Artists. We are in the planning process for our 2025 Jardineros Yearbook and looking for artwork for the cover. As you know, 2025 will be our 60th Anniversary and we want to incorporate that theme in some fashion on the cover. We know there are many talented artists among us and if you are interested, please contact Jayne Schultz.

Solicitation of Interest for Participation on the Nominating Committee. We will be voting on a slate of officers for 2025 in September. At this time, we are looking for members interested in helping identify potential nominees. If you are interested in helping with this, please contact Karen Croxton.

Refreshment Chair for 2025. This year will be Jane Garland’s final year as the Refreshment Chair. Jane has done an outstanding job in this position, but now it is time to pass the spatula so to speak. If you are interested, Jane will be available through the rest of 2024 to organize the monthly refreshments and will provide training and share her insights with the next chair. Please contact Jane if you think this is the job for you.
Hope all are enjoying the beautiful results of our monsoon season from the green mesas to all those little clumps of yellow flowers popping up everywhere. See you August 7 at our meeting.
