Dear Jardineros Members,

Here we are in March and our 60th Anniversary Celebration continues. Just a few days ago we were treated to the Book Club High Tea – a smashing success.   We dined on delicious “Petites Bouchées” and sipped delightful teas from beautiful China settings. All participants were decked out in their “Afternoon Tea” finest from the top of their fascinators to the tip of their polished “chaussures”.  (There was a bit of a French vibe going on.) It was so much fun! Thank you to Karen Cox and all those who helped put it together.

Our monthly March meeting will be this coming Wednesday, March 5th, at the Las Placitas Presbyterian Church starting at 9:00 AM with gathering and refreshments. At 9:30 we will proceed with some announcements and our program. Our topic this month is “Some Like It Hot”. Dr Stephanie Walker, a Professor and Extension Vegetable Specialist in the Department of Extension Plant Sciences at New Mexico State University, will share her insights on that classic question – “Red, Green or Christmas?” After the presentation we will break for more socializing and conclude with our business meeting.

As a reminder, our Interest Groups have planned a special event to celebrate our Diamond Jubilee each month this year. This list can be found on the back cover of your 2025 Yearbook and on our the 60th Anniversary page on our website. At our meeting you will hear more information about our March event, and previews of the April and May events that will include:

  • The Highway Clean Up of Hwy 165 on Saturday, March 15th will be our March event.  Kick-off will be at noon in the Gracie Lee Room of the Placitas Community Library. We will be cleaning up both sides of 5 miles along Hwy 165 and will need lots of volunteers. After clean-up, participants will return to the library to celebrate with pizza and a few prizes will be given out! If you are interested in participating, helping to coordinate or providing a beverage for the event please complete the registration form HERE, no later than March 5th, 2025.

  • The Dinner and a Play Interest Group has two very special treats for us in April and May. On April 18th from 2:30 – 4:30 all are invited to enjoy two Live Vignettes performed by Terri Klein, a local playwright and performer. This event will be held at the Placitas Community Library. An official invitation to the membership will be coming soon. Then on May 4th all are invited to a matinee performance of Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks directed by Terri Klein at the Adobe Theater in Albuquerque followed by dinner at the Range in Bernalillo. More information on time and tickets will be sent out to the membership soon.

  • The Game Night Interest Group is sponsoring Pub Trivia on May 15th at the Range Café in Bernalillo during Happy Hour from 4:00 – 6:00. More information on this fun event will also be forthcoming.

Mark your calendar and plan to attend. Remember, take your Yearbook to each event you attend and have it initialed as documentation of your attendance. Those with the greatest number of events attended will be eligible for a special gift. Drawing for the gift will be held during our Diamond Jubilee Celebration at the Prairie Star restaurant on December 7, 2025.

You know spring is on the way when the activity calendars start to fill up. And this year we have several Placitas community events involving some of our Jardineros members. The current Placitas Artists Series (PAS) art exhibit at the Las Placitas Presbyterian Church includes quilts by Jo Anne Fredrikson. The next PAS art exhibit will include works by Mary Lou Skelton beginning March 7th.  A presentation at the Placitas Community Library on March 29 at 2:00 pm, “The Geographer’s Eye: Sight and Insight”, will be presented by Susan and Dan Arreola. The Placitas Community Library annual “Spring Fling” is scheduled for April 12th. Our Plant Whisperers Interest Group will be participating in those festivities. And don’t forget the annual Placitas Studio Tour on Mother’s Day weekend in May. The Studio Tour Brochure Cover image is “Stairway to Heaven” by our very own Mary Lou Skelton. Watch for the brochures as they will be available soon. And the fun continues!

Cheers,

Janice
