President's Message

Kirk Taylor-2022.jpg

Greetings Fellow FPA NCA Members,

The 2022 Winter Olympics are officially in the history books with the US bringing home a total of 25 medals; 8 gold 10 silver and 7 bronze. Congratulations to Team U.S.A.! No matter the outcome or the internal strife of the day, the Olympics always remind us of why we have such pride as a nation.

While the Olympics took center stage for the better part of February, Vladamir Putin quickly garnered the world’s attention when he invaded Ukraine just a few short days after the Closing Ceremony. Alas, the volatility we saw in January has continued in February, with the NASDAQ nearing bear market territory and the S&P 500 nearing correction territory on the day of the invasion.

It goes without saying, but times like these provide great opportunities for thoughtful planners to stand out from the pack with active communication and reminders of the long-term Plan we have helped clients create. Alas, when the markets head south, clients need the steady hand of their Planner more than ever.

I’d like to thank our members for a great turnout at our February luncheon. We had nearly 50 people in attendance at Westwood Country Club in Vienna. Gary Altman gave a great overview of how cryptocurrencies are treated for estate planning purposes and Jamie Catherwood educated us with intriguing stories that remind us of the role that psychology plays in investing.

Respectfully,

Kirk
