Greater Miami LGBT Chamber of Commerce

President’s Newsletter

July 2024

Dear Greater Miami LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce members,

I hope this newsletter finds you all thriving and enjoying the summer season. As you have seen from previous editions, I try to convey important themes happening at MDGLCC, and also provide information and opportunities not covered in our other newsletters. This month is all about Engagement! As always, I'm excited to share several important updates and upcoming events that I believe will be of great interest to our vibrant community.

Looking Back on Pride Month

We had a very exciting June of programming starting with our Pride in the Park event with the Miami Marlins and concluding with our State of Our Community – State of DEI luncheon. Thank you to our 2 featured speakers City of Miami Commissioner Damian Pardo and Co-Managing Partner of Greenberg Traurig Yosbel Ibarra for providing insight and common sense reflections concerning this important topic. Though the landscape around diversity, equity, and inclusion in this state continues to be legislatively under attack, Damian and Yosbel provided a balanced context in their remarks.  Thank you to our speakers and all of you who joined us.

Leadership Engagement

I'm thrilled to announce that we will be hosting our annual Leadership Retreat next week. This exclusive event is designed to bring together our chamber's top leaders, board members, and key stakeholders for a day of strategic planning, networking, and professional development. The retreat will focus on identifying new growth opportunities, strengthening our organizational structure, and programming the 2nd half of the year’s activity calendar. If you are interested in a leadership role with one of our many councils, please contact us to set up a discussion (Email MDGLCC).

National LGBTQ Chamber Conference in Palm Springs

Later this month, a delegation from our chamber will attend the National LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce Conference in Palm Springs, California. This prestigious event is a unique opportunity to ENGAGE with LGBTQ business leaders from across the country, attend informative workshops, and explore new partnerships and collaborations. Key to the conference each year is the focus on our Certified Businesses and the opportunity to connect with large corporations targeting the LGBTQ business community as they continue to diversity their supply chain. Although the conference is SOLD OUT, start making plans to attend next year’s conference. If you are interested in CERTIFICATION, please reach out to one of our Council Co-Chairs, Cristina Serralta or Stephan Toupin for more information.

Planning for Our Future

As we look ahead to the remainder of 2024 and beyond, our board of directors has been hard at work developing a comprehensive strategic plan to guide the chamber's growth and evolution. This plan will focus on expanding our membership base, enhancing our member services, and positioning the Greater Miami LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce as a leading voice for the LGBTQ business community in South Florida. We'll be sharing more details about this plan in the coming months, and we welcome your input and feedback.

Leadership Engagement Opportunities

Speaking of the future, I'd like to encourage all of our members to consider getting more involved in the chamber's leadership. We have several exciting opportunities available, including serving on our board of directors, chairing a committee, or taking on a special project. If you're interested in learning more, please don't hesitate to reach out to me or any of our board members.

Membership Drive

Finally, I'd like to remind all of our members about our annual Membership Drive that commences each August with the launch of our MDGLCC Virtual Directory project. We're actively seeking to expand our reach and welcome new businesses and professionals to our vibrant community. If you know of any LGBTQ-owned or LGBTQ-friendly companies (ALLIES) that would benefit from the resources and networking opportunities offered by the Greater Miami LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce, please encourage them to join us.

Thank you all for your continued support and dedication to the Greater Miami LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce. I look forward to ENGAGING with you at our upcoming events and working together to drive the success of our community.
