Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club
President's Post April 2019

Welcome to the April edition of The Post and thanks for opening this to read about some updates on activities around your Club.

As many of you will be aware two volunteer surf life savers from the Port Campbell SLSC lost their lives while attempting to rescue a swimmer in their offshore rescue boat during Easter. It's a tragic reminder of the potential risks that all volunteer surf life savers and paid lifeguards face when they undertake their duties. We have passed on our condolences to the members of the Port Campbell SLSC as well as to LSV. Should any member require personal support from LSV, this can be facilitated by phoning LSV Comms via the 13 SURF number.

    Maintenance works underway at Queenscliff
Following on from an independent audit commissioned by LSV, we have commenced some preventative maintenance works at the Santa Casa Beach Base in light of this report and in light of issues affecting the Back Beach Base.
Fortunately the location and design of the Queenscliff outpost means that ongoing maintenance is less expensive and much easier than the challenges we face at the Back Beach.
Our VP Property Andrew MacLeod is overseeing works that include:
    1. Repainting of the exterior (see pic for new colour) timber walls.
    2. Inspection, maintenance (as required) and re-securing of the colourbond roof.
    3. Electrical works to meet OHS requirements and fix external lighting.
    4. Relocation of the 5km solar panel system from the Storage Shed to this site (as these cannot be relocated to the new Clubhouse due to builders warranty issues).
These works will ensure that the Santa Casa Beach Base remains serviceable for years to come and will also result in improved environmental considerations as more electricity will be produced than is required from this site!

    Easter Awards Night
Congratulations to all that received recognition at our Easter Awards Night. It was a fun and relaxed evening where we shared some pizza, laughs and for those 18 and over helped to empty the GB fridges.
The Office will have all the awards / trophies of those that could not attend, so please pop in to collect your item (s) to save on postage and grab before the place is gone!

    Successful IRB Camp held
In what is becoming an annual event - the Easter IRB Camp has proven to be most successful.
Well done to new Drivers - Josh Brien, Charlie Bidgood and Charlie Harper and new Crew - Max Grabasch, Jock Wright Smith, Jack Eaton, Alex Daley, Charlie Gough and Cormac Mahoney.
Big shout out and thanks to Tim Harrison, Kye Gray, Will Gourlay and Andrew Taylor for helping to make it happen.

    Club Constitution
Hats off to Charlie Pitney, James Coutie and Drew Robinson who for 2 years have been working hard in the background to deliver us a brand new Constitution.
The Constitution follows the current LSV model format with some features that suit us to have a more flexible Board (Executive) and Committee structure to share the load. This draft was adopted unanimously on Easter Saturday. Thank you Charlie, James and Drew.

    Position STILL Vacant: Editor
The Executive Committee are really keen to get the "Bumblebee" up and running again. We're looking for a volunteer to help produce a quarterly newsletter. Work in your own time at your own pace - what a great flexible position. Please contact Steve Woodfull at
