This week we held our first Executive Committee meeting and I would like to highlight some of the key matters that were resolved / discussed.
You will start to see the distinctive logo (above) more around the place as we commence the member and community donation campaign and continue to work on this important proejct.
We discussed at length changes to the Working with Children Check (WWCC). Victorian Government laws on the issue were recently tightened to include
Any person 18 years and over, in a voluntary or salaried position, who works with person's under 18 years of age in any capacity is required to have a valid Working with Children Check registered to Life Saving Victoria and their (Surf) Life Saving Club. The Department of Justice WWC Check website defines the requirement as Child related work as contact with a child that is "direct" and part of the person's duties. Direct contact includes oral, written or electronic communications as well as face to face".
As a consequence, the Executive resolved unanimously that a valid WWCC (listing the Club) is required by all members 18 and over (or will be 18 this season). The Club's administration area will assist any members who may have difficulty with accessing the internet to undertake a WWCC.
As proposed at the AGM, immediate past President Michael Doery has now been co-opted to the Executive Committee to assist with strategic / governance support and we look forward to working with Michael, who brings a wealth of experience and skills to this role.
Cadet and Bronze Camp info packs and an online expression of interest form has now been placed on the Camps website.
Following last season we now have a ranking process which (should demand exceed supply) assist us to select candidates whom we believe will be involved with the Club for more than one season and involved in club activities.
It's important to note that it's not first in best dressed and that potential applicants read all information on the Camp page and info pack, before completing the online EOI form.
EOIs close 15th September.
Membership renewals / applications will open shortly and as per last year follow an online process, which is a significant time and cost saving mode and more environmentally friendly. Detailed information / support will be placed on the Memberships page.
Membership fees remain unchanged from last season.
Finally, ticket sales to our 70th anniversary celebrations are now open and please see below for more information !
