This week we enter our busiest and most active five weeks of the lifesaving calendar. While we offer a lot it also takes a lot to put on so many events, services and activities so please spare some of your valuable time to volunteer.
The risk of burnout to those that volunteer all year round, or for many months is a real issue, so if you don't hold a position I'm especially asking you to put up your hand for one or two days of assistance which will be very well received and is essential to keeping things going and avoiding the curse of burnout. (See contacts for the area that you might be able to help with, or sign up to the RVSC volunteers site, or keep an eye on our Facebook / Twitter for appeals for help - thank you !).
If you're an active member, then time to Requal is running out, so please check here ASAP -
I hope that you enjoy catching up with family and friends during the festive time - travel safely, play it safe around water and Season's Greetings.

    Pop Up is BACK
The Pop Up Summer Series is back, and so are our friends from Taco Truck and Flying Brick Cider!
Now in it's fourth year, the Pop-Up Summer Series has become a popular tradition that sees the club partner with a F&B operator to transform the lawn of our clubhouse into a Pop Up Restaurant and Lawn Bar.
The purpose of our Pop Up Summer Series is to help us raise money and awareness for our surf club, and feed our hungry nippers and members of course! We also see it as a great way to connect with the community over the summer season and all are welcome to visit (doggos included).
This season, the Pop Up Summer Series will be running from the 27th of December until the 13th of January, open every night (except New Years Eve) from 5pm until 10pm. There will be yummy food, a pop up bar and live music most nights.
To keep it even more interesting, we will be doing things a little differently this year. Raph and his team from Taco Truck will be experimenting with some new street food flavours by hosting special nights with different cuisines to be served alongside Taco Truck.
There will be a rotation of Greek Street Food or Fried Chicken, and the much-loved Beatbox Burgers will also be making an appearance at the club. So expect plenty more than just yummy tacos and nachos! We have announced these special nights on our Facebook and Calendar, so pop down to the pop up!

    Keep connected join YIPs
If you would like to be involved in YIP's this year, we will be holding an information session at 3pm on Friday 28 December. This will give you an overview of the program as well as give you a chance to meet your YIPs mentors over a BBQ.

Help keep the tradition of the Cosy Corner Carnival alive
Cosy Corner Junior Carnival Friday 4 January 2019.
We need parent volunteers to co-ordinate our team for the Cosy Corner junior carnival. The Cosy Corner junior carnival is held at Torquay on Friday 4 January. This carnival is often the Nippers first opportunity to experience a surf lifesaving carnival and compete against clubs from all over Victoria. We would love to send a team from Point Lonsdale, however, to do so we need parents to volunteer to manage our team. If you are interested please contact Rich Howden

    New Clubhouse project
On behalf of Chris and Kirsten, I can update that both sub committees are working very hard in the background to keep on with this mammoth undertaking for our Club. At the Season launch I talked about it being a 'once in a two generational project' for our Club - it's complicated, expensive and hard work!
In the meantime, please spread the word to your family, friends and neighbours about making a donation - look out for some nifty 'tap and go' points around the place to make a direct donation from your card to the project and some donation material in The Rip and / or your letterbox too.

    Back Beach Base update
For those that have been over the hill, you will have seen that the Base has a new feature - temporary fencing to the front (original) section, to create a perimeter in case any of the concrete was to dislodge.
We re-engaged a structural engineer to visit the site and the report confirms that the concrete cancer has worsened and it is to a point where we cannot currently use the tilt door (to store IRB & ATV) and the door next to it. Thanks to Andrew, Alan and Charlie a temporary workaround has been established until we hope a short term solution is found to re-establish safe access to the gear storage area.
In the meantime I'm pleased to advise that I have started discussions with our MP Lisa Neville, who is also now Minister for Emergency Services and she has put me in contact with one of her staffers from Emergency Management Victoria and we will be meeting early in the new year to show them the issues and further discuss our plans to redevelop this essential facility.

31st RVSC - we need your help please
We would love any help with next Sunday's Ripview Swim Classic !! Not just limited to assistance on the day of the event. If you can drive a trailer, cook a BBQ or rattle a tin - WE NEED YOUR HELP!
