Welcome to the May edition of The Post and thanks for opening this to read about some updates on activities around your Club.

This edition is largely devoted to some significant updates with the new Clubhouse project. First and foremost, what an exciting week it was for our Club with news from the State Budget. On the Club's social media today, on behalf of the members and supporters of the Club I thanked the State Government for the additional $ 500 000 allocated to the new Clubhouse project. This brings to a total of $ 2 million of State funding for this much needed infrastructure and I thanked Lisa Neville MP for her long standing support of the Club and of this project. We would not be where we are without her unwavering support ! This $ 2M and our efforts to raise $ 1.75M (thus far) will see what was a dream when we started 10 years ago become a reality sooner than later. We have been overwhelmed by the positive and generous support of the community and pledges of $1.5M (thus far) - an amazing effort and thank you to all who have made this possible. We still have more work to do and are working hard to raise the last portion of funds with the hope that we can commence in February 2019. I trust that we will also gain local government (and federal government financial support - funding application pending), just like current nearby projects at Ocean Grove SLSC, Jan Juc SLSC and Anglesea SLSC have all received. Today I was joined by NCCCC Chair Kirsten MacLeod and Life Member Alan Joyce at a sod turning event at the Ocean Grove SLSC. It was great to celebrate this milestone for our neighbouring Club and to congratulate President David Pavia and Building Committee Chair Chris Patterson. It was also evident how contributions from local, state and federal government have made their dream become a reality. We were also able to share our funding upgrade news with Lisa Neville MP and to meet with Sarah Henderson MP to discuss the importance of a federal commitment just like Ocean Grove, Jan Juc and Anglesea SLSCs have enjoyed. It was nice to have the opportunity to talk with Cr Jim Mason (COGG) about the new Clubhouse project as many of our members and beach visitors live in the City of Greater Geelong and to talk with Andrew Foran and Paul Shannon from LSV. In coming weeks the Club's Executive Committee will prepare for the Season 2017 / 2018 Annual General Meeting. I am aware that there have been occasions where nominations (for Life Membership) could not be accepted as there was insufficient time for the various steps to occur, so to avoid this happening, this email has been sent. Life Membership is the Club's highest award and honour and as such it is not necessarily awarded each Season and requires the endorsement of the Executive Committee and the membership, at the Club's Annual General Meeting. As contained in our Constitution, to be considered for Life Membership, the member shall have rendered distinguished, continuous and voluntary service to the Association over a period of at least 15 years. To be considered, the service must be both sustained and provided a conspicuous contribution to the advancement of the Association and Surf Life Saving in Point Lonsdale and Queenscliff. Written nominations which meet the above criteria must include a 'detailed' CV listing (sufficient so that a member who does not know the nominee could make a decision) the service and should be forwarded to the Club Secretary by COB on Thursday 31 May to secretary@pointlonsdaleslsc.asn.au

From the New Clubhouse Capital Campaign Committee |
|
Hi everyone, It is with great pleasure that the NCCCC Committee advise that we have just pushed through the $1.5 million mark in pledges. The total banked as of today is $633,205.87. The NCCC, with the endorsement of the Executive Committee, is also offering major donors the opportunity to name a room or space within the new building and grounds as a form of recognition for their support of the project. The NCCC is currently working through these options with major donors to date - but if anyone is interested in supporting the capital campaign and would be interested to know more about the opportunity to have a form of naming recognition in an area of the building, they should contact Paul Conroy on the NCCC on paulconroyhome@gmail.com or on 0422003101
