KEEPING OUR CAMPUS SAFE AND SECURE

Dear St. Pius X Family,

The tragic school shooting in Nashville immediately had me thinking about our St. Pius students and faculty. I am sure many of you had similar thoughts. I asked myself, "Are we doing everything we can to keep our students and faculty safe?" While no place is 100% safe, after reviewing our safety and security plans and speaking with our safety and security committee members, the answer to that question is "yes."

Odin Enterprises performed a campus-wide security audit and reviewed our emergency response plans this school year, and we have begun adopting their recommendations. Additionally, our safety and security committee meets monthly and routinely reviews crisis scenarios. Committee members station themselves in different locations at every all-school Mass and assembly, and we do lockdown drills with our faculty. Chamblee Police are on campus every school day and present at significant events on campus. Finally, the Ring the Bells Capital Campaign security upgrades are complete, with a new secure lobby and rear entrance. These improvements provide a safer and more secure campus for everyone.

In closing, I would like to say a special thank you to our community. Serving as your interim president this school year has been an honor. The work has been challenging, but it has been rewarding. Together, we are making a positive difference in the lives of young people and planting seeds that will continue growing long after our students graduate. As Pope Francis said, "The Church's work of education aims not only to ensure the maturity proper to the human person but above all to ensure that the baptized, gradually initiated into the knowledge of the mystery of salvation, become ever more aware of the gift of faith." As we near the end of the 2023-2024 school year, my prayers go out to our students, particularly the Class of 2023. Their graduation on May 13 will be a day of joy and celebration.
