Summer Message Including Strategic Plan Update 

Administrators, faculty, and staff have been planning for the 2023-24 academic year. President Joanie Mahoney offers an update on what’s been happening on campus – including Marshall Hall renovations - the critical next steps in advancing ESF’s strategic plan. ESF Student Wins Prestigious Legal Essay Contest

Rising senior Isabel Valentín earned first-place honors in the Benjamin and David Scharps Legal Essay Competition.

Valentin submitted a 2,000-word essay that was judged by how effectively she articulated the law and court cases and applies them to the fact pattern provided to reach a conclusion. The award – given in memory of attorneys Benjamin and David Scharps – goes to SUNY juniors or seniors who are prelaw or have an interest in legal studies and write the best legal essay on the designated subject.

Janine DeBaise's essay “My Father's Legacy” was recently published in About Place Journal, a literary journal published by the Black Earth Institute and dedicated to re-forging the links between art and spirit, earth and society. The essay describes an early morning sail in the Thousand Islands archipelago of the Saint Lawrence River, a place where she has sailed since childhood. DeBaise is a faculty member in the Writing Program at ESF.

Kayla M. Harvey and Dr. Michael Schummer published Assigning harvested waterfowl to geographic origin using feather δ2H isoscapes: What is the best analytical approach? in PLOS ONE which looks at the benefits of using an isotopic approach to establishing links between breeding, stopover, and wintering sites for migratory species.

Plan Ahead for Parking Lot Closure

Parking Lot P-22, located off East Raynor Avenue, will be closed Aug. 3-6 due to the Def Leppard/Mötley Crüe and Alice Cooper concert at the JMA Wireless Dome Aug. 5. Faculty and staff are asked to choose alternative ESF lots and the Standart West lot during this time.
