President's Update
Dear Families,

Cardinal Seán O’Malley presided over our Mass last week. It was the high point of our Catholic Schools Week celebration for our community. Our entire school came together to worship and give thanks for our Catholic traditions, which play an instrumental role in transforming our students’ lives. Mr. Bucchino, Boys Division Leader, said, “It was probably the best Mass in MC's history.” Given that he is a 1971 graduate and spent over 40 years at MC, that says a lot!

The Gospel reading came from Matthew 25, where Jesus tells a parable about helping those in need – the hungry, thirsty, homeless, naked, sick and visiting those in prison. He says, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” The point of the story is that when we minister to the needs of others, we are not only acting like Jesus, but also could very well be ministering to Him.

The Cardinal illustrated this lesson with a story. There once was a man who lived on the side of a mountain. From his home, he had an excellent view, including a popular beach on the ocean. One day, while there were many beachgoers, he noticed a giant incoming wave (tsunami). He yelled and shouted at the people below, but they could not hear him. At wit’s end, he set his house on fire, hoping the people below would see it.

They did, and many left the beach -- racing up the mountain to help put out the fire. The tsunami swallowed those that remained behind and were never seen again. The Cardinal made the point that the people focused on the needs of others saved themselves. It was a powerful story that calls us to heed Philippians 2:4, which states, “Let each of you look not only to your interests but also the interests of others.”

Over the years, you may have heard of Rudy Favard, a very special 2011 Malden Catholic graduate. While at MC, Rudy exemplified Matthew 25 through his actions to help a local family with a disabled child. I would encourage you to watch the documentary A Simple Act if you are not familiar with this story. It is not only an amazing and touching illustration of love and contribution, but it also demonstrates the difference Malden Catholic makes in the lives of others. Here is the link to the documentary - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esBkU4_doPk.

May we each day encourage each other to love and minister good deeds to all (Hebrews 10:24).

Due to an increased number of absences and tardiness, MC Administrators ask that you review the Attendance Policy. We have included additional details regarding the policy and proper procedures for contacting the Main Office.

Dismissal Policy
Students who do not feel well need to report to the MC Nurse’s Office. One of the nurses will call parents if a student’s condition warrants dismissal. MC students should not be calling their parents to come and dismiss them if they feel ill. Students must be seen by one of the MC Nurses first. Thank you for your understanding.

We are providing the MC weekly dining menu in the President's Update to make it easier for students to plan lunch throughout the week. The menu is also available through the Malden Catholic Mobile App along with easy access to the online portal for adding money to student lunch accounts.
