President's Update

Dear Families,

The last couple of weeks have certainly given new meaning to the phrase "March Madness!" As I write this letter, the Boys Varsity Basketball team recently advanced to the DII Final Four game of the MIAA Tournament, and the MC Girls Varsity Hockey team advanced to the MIAA DI Final Four. Additionally, the Mock Trial team advanced to the Elite 8 round of the MASSBAR State Tournament, marking the 5th consecutive Elite 8 appearance for MC. They will compete next at the Moakley Federal Courthouse in Boston. Lastly, the MC Drama Club celebrated two outstanding performances of "Tracks" written by Peter Tarsi last weekend in the Thomas '66 and Olivia McDonough Performing Arts Center.

We spent the past few weeks celebrating Black History Month, which included a visit from former Medford Poet Laureate Terry E. Carter. We also held our 5th Annual STEM Innovation Fair this past Wednesday evening, which was a huge success with over seventy students participating, and over forty-five judges evaluating the outstanding work of our students.

This past Thursday, our international students celebrated Lunar New Year with amazing food and camaraderie after school in the cafeteria, just as our newly elected XBSS students returned from their Xaverian Brother Sponsored Schools Student Leadership Retreat with Brother Puccio. This morning, DECA students left for competition, and we are looking forward to our second annual International Culture Night, which will take place on March 21. The list goes on and on!

It is a tradition at Malden Catholic that one day be chosen in March for a day off of school. This week, President Thornburg granted a President’s Holiday on Monday, March 18. We are extremely grateful for this day off for rest and relaxation for all students, faculty, and staff.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey P. Smith '95, P'24, '26

Senior Basket Forms - Due by 3.25

It has become an annual tradition for Malden Catholic underclass families to support the graduating class through the Senior Basket Program. This program provides unique and thoughtful baskets of gifts and goodies to MC Seniors.

Underclass families are invited to adopt a Senior and create a basket based on the student's individual preferences and interests. The completed basket will then be either delivered by the host family to the Senior's home or dropped off at MC for the student to pick up. A short prayer service will be held at the school on Saturday, April 27 to launch the basket deliveries.

Parents of students in Grades 9-11 who are interested in participating in the program must submit their name, phone number, email address, the number of Seniors for whom they plan to create baskets, their preference for the Boys Division or Girls Division, and the name of the Senior(s) they prefer to create baskets for to Mrs. Jeannine Reardon at reardonj@maldencatholic.org by Monday, March 25.

Please note that requests for specific Senior(s) are not guaranteed and they are assigned on a first come, first served basis.
