President's Update
Dear Families,

When I was eight years old, my mother wanted to take a photo of me and my two younger sisters. She decided that we should stand on the bed in my younger sister’s room. We climbed up on the bed, stood up and leaned against the wall. The movement of our bodies and pressure on the wall caused the bed to slide out from under us and we landed on the floor where the bed once stood. We were all very surprised by the fall but did not get hurt. With the three of us sprawled out on the floor, my mother snapped the photo. I have kept a copy of the photo to this day.

Based on all of the progress we made over the past year, I thought we had climbed to a safe and sturdy position against the pandemic. However, the recent increase in COVID-19 positive cases felt like the bed had slipped out from underneath us.

At Malden Catholic we were able to quickly reinstitute our weekly COVID-19 testing program, and I appreciate everyone’s patience over the past week as we navigated the latest COVID-19 challenges. Our results show an increase in cases, but the spike was moderate as compared to past surges.

Plus, it was encouraging to see the entire MC community come together in response to our latest challenge. Within 24 hours, the building was sanitized, our nurses did contact tracing and we tested our entire school, including students, faculty and staff. Our community did what was needed to get back on track and move ahead. Everyone worked together and as a result of this vigilant effort, we expect to finish the school year as planned and truly celebrate our historic codivisional Commencement Exercises next week!

My sisters and I did the same thing when the bed slipped out from under us; we were surprised. But after making sure everyone was okay, we went on to take several photos. We also valued the time we spent together even more, appreciating our experiences.

The personal enduring relationships are what make Malden Catholic such a special place.

Thank you for your support,

John K. Thornburg

Schoolwide COVID-19 Testing - 5.16 at 7 AM
On Monday, May 16, we will require all faculty, staff and students in grades 9, 10, and 11 to participate in an all-school COVID-19 testing. We will use rapid antigen tests. Anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 90 days does not need to take a test. Any member of our school community who cannot make this mandatory event should contact either Nurse Paquette, Nurse Olive, or Mrs. Redman.

Testing will be conducted in the gymnasium, and we will utilize our normal entry procedures. Boys Division will enter through door #11 and the Girls Division will enter through door #1. Testing will begin at 7 AM and all students, faculty, and staff should go directly to the gymnasium when they arrive.

Students will check-in at the door outside of the gymnasium, then proceed to the next available testing table inside the gymnasium. Students will take the rapid antigen test and then leave the testing area. The same procedure will be used for faculty and staff. All testing should be completed by 8 AM. We ask that you plan accordingly. Those with a positive test result will be notified by the Nurse’s Office.
