Dear Families,
This week's note is written by our Boys Division Leader, Mr. Bob Bucchino, who announced his retirement at our recent Commencement Ceremony. We congratulate Mr. Bucchino on forty years of service to Malden Catholic!
Good Morning, Parents (1983 to 2023):
The long-awaited and well-deserved daily sun and warmer weather (hopefully!) have finally arrived and feel wonderful. Let us continue to cherish the beauties of Spring!
Quite frequently in major league sports, we often read and/or hear about long-term veteran players announcing that they have come upon the day and the realistic realization that it is time for them to step down from their passion and playing position. So many of them love their sport and organization so much, that they angst over this thought and don’t really wish to leave; however, they know in their hearts and minds that it is the right thing to do. Thus, they are driven by reason.
They are often athletes who believe that they were truly blessed; they had received more from their team/organization than they had produced or given in their career, Subsequently, when they are fortunate to find a rational balance between their decision to leave and to remain as actively engaged as possible, they negotiate and/or are asked to continue in some other institutional capacity to stay connected to the team of which they are most fond. And more often than not, they respond affirmatively!
I am writing to let you know that I, too, am one of those players, stepping down from my beloved Boys Division Leader administrative role. After much reflection, discernment, discussion, and prayer (a lot of dialogue with the Holy Spirit on those daily walks and runs), for the past three years, I will conclude my administrative role this June 2023.
Through the kindness and generosity of Mr. Thornburg and Mr. Smith, I will have the privilege of remaining associated with Team MC by assisting in the alumni office, and/or helping with new teacher formation, and/or supporting the Academic Administration, most especially with our new Boys Division Leader helping him/her transition to the position and the myriad of responsibilities.
Please, please, please understand that this has not been an easy decision since the field of education has been my life/workstyle for the entirety of my adult professional life and Malden Catholic has been my home away from home and extended family for the past forty years. This has been a bittersweet and contemplative thought process with lots of emotional ebbs and flows.
Throughout my forty-four-year tenure at MC as a student, as a teacher, department chair, and as an administrator, I have truly been blessed to have been surrounded by so many excellent and caring role models (Brother Robertus Duffy, Br. Plunkett Doherty, Br. Thomas Mulloy, Mr. Jack Carroll, Br. Robert Sullivan, Br. Richard Cook, Br. Robert Green, Br. Thomas Puccio, and Mr. Thomas Arria) who have always had my person and interests at heart, wanting me to be the best-version-of-myself.
I would like to thank them for modeling, inspiring, and helping me to understand, to embrace, and to undertake my daily responsibilities - as integral pieces of both the Xaverian and Malden Catholic missions, as acts of love and service; as the loving hands, feet, eyes, ears, and mouth of a merciful and loving God, and not as a series of disconnected school-related checkbox duties and tasks.
I thank each of you in a very special and memorable way for entrusting me with nurturing and transforming the lives of your sons, for showing me your kindness, respect, and friendship, for engaging in many casual and personal conversations, and for your continued interest in my family and myself. You most certainly demonstrate our Malden Catholic hallmarks of engaging and enduring personal relationships, fostering a sense of growing in a community of faith through the love of God, self, and others, and creating a rich familial atmosphere. You are all truly Plus Ultra – More Beyond.
In more ways than you know, you have made my roles as teacher, department chair, and administrator easier to navigate. Knowing that I had your assistance, support, and cooperation in working with your sons have made all the difference. I am most indebted to you.
Please note, that you and your sons have been one of the fundamental reasons for remaining at Malden Catholic for forty-years. Thank you!
In conclusion, I feel most confident and trustful that God, as always, will have a plan for me and my family and that I will continue to compliment my Malden Catholic journey. I believe that Jeremiah 29:11 sums it up nicely and succinctly: For I know the plans I have for you; they are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
Wishing you and your families many blessings - safety, happiness, health, and prosperity.
Appreciatively and thankfully,
Mr. Robert J. Bucchino
