President's Update

Dear Families,

As we embrace the season of gratitude this November, I want to express my appreciation for the strength of our school community. The Spiritual Values of the Xaverian Brothers Charism of simplicity, humility, compassion, trust and zeal are woven into all aspects of life at Malden Catholic and we remain committed to individuals who embody our Plus Ultra motto – “More Beyond.” Among these exemplary figures is Ms. Angela Lee P'04, '09.

Ms. Lee, a beloved member of our community for over 42 years, is currently navigating health circumstances that have temporarily kept her away from the classroom, and we extend our thoughts and prayers to her for a quick recovery. Ms. Lee stands as a beacon of service, leadership, and excellence at MC. Beyond the classroom, she has taken on roles as a Department Chair, Student Council Moderator, and advisor to the Brother Gilbert Chapter of the National Honor Society. Her impact echoes in the lasting connections she has made with students, faculty/staff, alumni, and parents. When alumni return after years of being away from Crystal St., they ask, “Is Ms. Lee still here?” They walk down to room 101 to see Ms. Lee dressed in her well-planned outfit, complete with a matching purse and shoes.

As we approach the Thanksgiving season, let us also embrace service opportunities. Until November 15, MC will be participating in the annual Thanksgiving Food Drive, where students will be gathering items for donation to the Peabody charity, "Gina's Giving Back." The Thanksgiving Prayer Service will be held on November 21, offering a moment for unity with MC’s student body. Lastly, the Thanksgiving break from November 22 - November 27 provides a well-deserved time for rest and reflection.

May the spirit of Thanksgiving continue to bring us together as a community, and may our prayers act as strength for Ms. Lee and all those bravely facing health challenges, reinforcing the bonds that make our community resilient.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey P. Smith '95, P'24, '26

What's Happening Around MC?

Veteran's Day Tribute

Malden Catholic prepared a tribute video to honor all who have served in our Armed Forces. We would also like to thank the MC alumni who are listed in this special MC catalog for making the ultimate sacrifice for our country. The catalog can be viewed through this link.

Dia de Los Muertos Kites

Last week, students in MC's Spanish II Class created colorful themed kites from delicate tissue paper in honor of the tradition of All Saints Day in Guatemala, which has served as a powerful symbol representing the Day of the Dead and the profound veneration of their ancestors.

MC Parent Club: “An Evening of the Arts”

MC was pleased to host “An Evening of the Arts” last week for MC’s Parent Club, faculty/staff, and guests. The event showcased inspiring artwork from MC students, Br. Rice, and the featured artist, Youveline Joseph.

Youveline Joseph, born in Cap-Haitien, Haiti, and a graduate of Suffolk University, was our featured guest artist. Her work is displayed along MC's Marilyn's Way, located on the first floor corridor of the Girls Division.

Youveline captivated the audience with both her words and art. She shared her personal journey to becoming an artist, discussing the inspiration behind her work, which focuses on displaying the beauty and diversity of the African Diaspora. She has been dubbed “New England’s Cowrie Shell Artist.”

The event featured two different art forms, making the exhibit a memorable experience, complemented by wine and sweet and savory hors d’oeuvres.

We extend our gratitude to Youveline for allowing MC to showcase her beautiful pieces of art!

Joey Fund Film Premiere

Ten Malden Catholic seniors assisted at the 39th Annual Joey O’Donnell Film Premiere of “The Holdovers.” The event, attended by over 500 patrons in support of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, is coordinated by Malden Catholic alumnus Mr. Joe O’Donnell ’62 and his wife Kathy, in memory of their son Joey. The Film Premiere and other Joey Fund events over the past 38 years have raised over $150 million to advance the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s vision of a cure for every person with this terrible disease. MC students volunteer annually to help at the event.
