President's Update

Dear Families,

Our Mission calls us to be an inclusive community of faith, where enduring personal relationships and lifelong learning thrive. Last weekend, the strength of these relationships was on display at the Homecoming Football game and Alumni BBQ celebration.

Our Alumni Relations team hosted a special event to celebrate the remarkable career of Mr. Robert Bucchino '71, P'10, a Malden Catholic graduate who dedicated four decades of his life to our school. As a teacher, mentor, department chair, and administrator, Mr. Bucchino has left an indelible mark on our community. It was amazing to witness nearly 200 alumni coming together under the lights to support our varsity football team and to express their gratitude to an individual who has given so much to Malden Catholic.

The Homecoming Dance took place on Saturday night, where more than 450 students, impeccably dressed, gathered to enjoy an evening of music and celebration. While the music may not have been to my taste, it was a joy to see our students singing, dancing, and creating life-long memories throughout the night. Everyone was well-behaved and their rides were on time which allowed us to wrap up the event in time to catch the 4th Quarter of the Notre Dame football game.

On Sunday, our community demonstrated its solidarity by participating in the ALS/MS Walk for Living. As we strolled through Admiral's Hill in Chelsea, MC students served as guides, ensuring we stayed on the right path. This walk is not just a service opportunity; it's a time for us to remember and honor those who battled ALS and MS, such as Chris Snow '99 and Tim Paquette '07, two outstanding young members of the Malden Catholic community who embodied our core values: simplicity, humility, compassion, trust, and zeal. We gather for this walk every year to pay tribute to their memory and spirit, and all those affected by ALS.

This past weekend was a testament to the strength of our community and the enduring personal relationships we've cultivated. Whether we were celebrating the career of an MC legend, honoring the legacy of those who battled ALS, or creating new memories at the Homecoming Dance, we embraced our mission to its full extent. We Are MC!

In the spirit of our shared mission, let us continue to build on these relationships, support one another, and cherish the values that make Malden Catholic so special.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey P. Smith '95, P'24, '26

A Prayer for Peace and Healing

Recent weeks have saddened us with the darkness of violence and death in the Middle East. In this month of October during which Catholics traditionally celebrate the sacredness of life, we have been witness anew to the horrors of war. Other parts of the world, too, continue to share in the human suffering, the devastations of war.

As a nation we stand against terrorism; as a Gospel people, we stand for the moral practice and justice that supports peace; as a Malden Catholic community of faith, we pray for peace and for consolation to all who are victims of war: for the repose of those who have died, for strength to those who mourn losses, for help to those who are injured and in need of human resource. May God guide the leaders of nations and peoples toward paths of peace. May God grant each of us the ability to recognize all others as his children, our brothers and sisters. Let us invoke the words of Pope Francis in his prayer for peace:

“Lord, keep alive within us the flame of hope, so that with patience and perseverance we may opt for dialogue and reconciliation. In this way may peace triumph at last, and may the words "division," "hatred" and "war" be banished from the heart of every man and woman. Lord, defuse the violence of our tongues and our hands. Renew our hearts and minds, so that the word which always brings us together will be "brother," and our way of life will always be that of: Shalom, Peace, Salaam!”
