President's Update

Dear Families,

It is an honor to be able to contribute throughout the year to the President’s Update along with Brother Puccio and President Thornburg! For those who know my background, I have been a teacher and a coach for many years, and much more accustomed to delivering speeches in a stadium filled with students and adults. However, I am truly grateful to provide a voice from the Administration team in our popular weekly newsletter - along with President Thornburg’s insightful stories and Brother Tom’s spiritual reflections.

I believe that we all begin the fall with a little bit of anxiousness and excitement. The season brings with it a new schedule, new structure and a sense of seriousness about the weeks ahead. These feelings of anticipation may undoubtedly be experienced by both our MC students and parents this week. Parents are making sure they have all the right textbooks and supplies for their child to begin school. Students are trying to squeeze out the last bit of summer break over this long weekend and get some extra sleep before setting their alarms again.

Tuesday is the first day of school and personally, I can’t wait for the beginning of every school year. I enjoy the energy and activity of the students in the hallways, the smiles in the cafeteria and the thrill of the first Friday night football game!

Our Malden Catholic team promises to provide our families with another great year filled with this excitement and programming and here are some of the key events coming up over the next few weeks: Junior Parent Night – 9.6 at 6:30 PM, 9th Grade Retreats – 9.7 and 9.8, Freshman Barbeque – 9.9 at 11 AM, Sophomore Parent Night – 9.13 at 6:30 PM, Senior College Planning Night – 9.14 at 6 PM, Lancers of Golf Tournament – 9.18 at 12 PM (sold out), Back to School Night 9.12 at 6:30 PM, Homecoming Football against North Quincy – 6 PM and Homecoming Dance – 9.23 at 7 PM.

As you enjoy this Labor Day weekend, I hope you begin to prepare for what promises to be an awesome year for our entire community. I look forward to seeing you next Tuesday morning bright and early!

Sincerely,

Jeffrey P. Smith '95, P'24, '26

MC Parent Club Volunteer Opportunities

At the heart of every successful school, you will find parents who give freely of their time to promote social activities, to perpetuate traditions, to encourage enrollment and to support a culture of philanthropy.

Our Malden Catholic Parent Club seeks to do all of these things. Through the assistance of MC staff members, we will look to our generous parents to help us in four key areas: Admissions, Advancement, General Assistance, Events, and Athletics.

As the school year begins, we encourage all of our parents to become involved and join us as volunteers for various events and opportunities. To be added to the list of parent volunteers for the 2023 - 2024 school year, please send an email to Mrs. Jeannine Reardon, Esq., GC’89, P’23, at [email protected] indicating the department you are interested in volunteering for, along with your first and last name, your student's name and year of graduation, phone number, and email address.
