Hello Optimist Club Presidents,
The next few weeks will be busy in the Optimist world! First gentleman Ron and I will attend the World Oratorical Contest, July 17-18, and the first days of the JOI Summit on July 17-18, both held at St. Louis University. We will leave for Miami on July 19 to attend the two last age groups of the Optimist Junior Golf Tournament, OIJGC.
Beginning in 1928, the Oratorical Contest has become the longest-running program of Optimist International. The contest is designed for young people to gain experience in public speaking and provide them with an opportunity to compete for multiple college scholarships with a pre-assigned topic.
Topic: How Optimism Has Guided Me Through Trying Times
District Scholarships:
Provided by our Foundations, OIF and CCOF
First Place: $2,500
Second Place: $1,500
Third Place: $1,000 with a chance to win up to $22,500 at the World Championships level.
Wondering how you can watch? We'll be streaming them live Thursday, July 17, and Friday, July 18, on our YouTube channel. Or, if you're near St. Louis, feel free to drop by the Center for Global Citizenship on the campus of Saint Louis University to watch in person! Click here to subscribe now, and be sure to turn on notifications so you don't miss it!
