Rare Disease Discovery: Antibodies Fighting Cancer Go On to Attack Brain San Francisco Chronicle | UCSF scientists, including Michael Wilson , MD, and Joe DeRisi, PhD, discovered an autoimmune condition that attacks the brain of some testicular cancer survivors. Researchers believe thousands of men could have the condition without knowing it.  Women in Labor Can’t Hold In Their Babies. Nurses Tell Them To Do It Anyway Vice | Women in labor are sometimes told to delay pushing because a doctor is not yet available, despite a higher risk to mother and baby. “The longer the pushing phase lasts, whether you’re actively pushing or sitting there, the higher the chances are for things like lower Apgar scores, lower blood gases and lower oxygen level. We know those things are not good,” said Dana Gossett , MD. LGBTQ Americans Could Be At Higher Risk For Dementia, Study Finds NPR | A large phone-based survey led by Jason Flatt , PhD, MPH, found that LGBTQ Americans were 29 percent more likely to report memory loss and confusion – two early signs of dementia – than their straight, cisgender counterparts.
