The annual tradition for the off-road media and Beta Factory Riders took place on August 27th at MotoVentures in Anza, CA. Located next to Creek MX Park, this event allows the press and our pro riders to either get introduced or reconnected to the sport of trials. Beta has a rich history in the sport of trials and promotes the sport at every opportunity.
This year, Beta brought factory riders: Benny Bloss, Mitchell Oldenburg, Dare DeMartile, Jhak Walker, along with Beta Ambassadors Zach Osborne and Rodney Smith. Teams were made up of one factory rider/team member and one member of the press.
This was a Gate-Style trials event where points are earned while the rear axle passes through gates, earning one point. A maximum of five points (gates) per section can be earned. The scoring starts when the rear axle passes through a gate and stops when a rider puts a foot down, crashes, goes out of bounds, or crosses over their own line.
The team of Carlen Gardner and Daniel Leavitt (Dirt Bike Magazine) won the event with 38 and 37 point loops for a total of 75 points
Second place went to Beta’s WORCS and NGPC rider Dare Demartile and his teammate, MXA’s Josh Fout.
A close battle for third between the team of Cycle News’ Ryan Nitzen and Beta GNCC racer Jhak Walker, nudging out Beta Supercross rider Benny Bloss and his teammate Beta test rider Bryson Gardner. Both teams finished with 72 points; however, Nitzen and Walker edged them out by having more 3’s as a tiebreaker. (Both teams had the same amount of fives and fours)
Only three points separated the top four teams!
The takeaway? Try trials riding—you might be surprised at how much it improves your overall riding.
