VACAVILLE, Calif. – Vacaville City Manager Aaron Busch has selected Vacaville Assistant Director of Public Works Maintenance Operations Brian McLean to be the Director of Public Works. Mr. McLean was selected following a recruitment earlier this year.

“I am pleased to announce Brian McLean as our next Director of Public Works,” said City Manager Aaron Busch. “He brings more than 18-years of local government experience to the position. I am confident that Brian will do a great job in leading the department during a time of tremendous growth in the services to our community.”

Mr. McLean graduated from Sacramento State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science & Chemistry. Prior to his local government work, he successfully achieved a Network Systems Engineer certification and worked as an Information Technology Manager and consultant. He began work with the City of Vacaville in 2005 as a Management Analyst for the Transit department, which was later reclassed to Transit/Public Works Manager. In 2015, he began his ascent with a promotion to Public Works Superintendent, followed by Deputy Director of Public Works, and finally assumed his most recent role as Assistant Director over the Maintenance Division.

During his tenure with the City of Vacaville, Mr. McLean improved transit ridership by 20%, modernized division workflow and instituted industry maintenance best practices including the City’s first GIS enabled asset management work order system. He was instrumental in the countywide effort to develop a coordinated intercity taxi scrip program for seniors and the disabled. Mr. McLean earned both Solano Transportation Authority Transit Employee of the Year and Metropolitan Transportation Commission Doris W. Kahn Accessible Transportation awards.

“It is a privilege to serve the Vacaville community in this capacity,” said Director of Public Works Brian McLean. “I look forward to leading the men and women of the Public Works Department as we endeavor to provide the highest quality service to our residents, businesses and visitors.”
