BEACHES MUSEUM TO PARTICIPATE IN BLUE STAR MUSEUMS
The Beaches Museum has announced that it will join museums nationwide in participating in the tenth summer of Blue Star Museums, a program which provides free admission to our nation’s active-duty military personnel and their families this summer.

Additionally, the Beaches Museum will offer a 10% discount on birthday parties for military children and 10% discount in the Museum store for military families. The 2019 program will begin earlier than in past years, launching on Saturday, May 18, 2019, Armed Forces Day, and ending on Monday, September 2, 2019, Labor Day. Military can find the list of participating museums at arts.gov/bluestarmuseums.

Blue Star Museums is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in collaboration with Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 2,000 museums nationwide. First Lady of the United States Melania Trump and Second Lady of the United States Karen Pence are honorary co-chairs of Blue Star Museums 2019.

On May 24, 2019, Jacksonville hosted the National Endowment for the Arts at the Cummer Museum & Gardens to launch the national media event “Blue Star Museums 10 th Summer Celebration”. The media event included remarks from Northeast Florida officials and a brief tour of the Cummer Museum & Gardens with several military families. Officials in attendance at the event were Mary Anne Carter, the acting Chair of the NEA, Sandy Shaughnessy, the Director of the Florida Division of the Cultural Affairs, Mayor Lenny Curry, City Councilman Aaron Bowman.
 
Northeast Florida museums were presented with a proclamation from the City of Jacksonville honoring the Beaches Museum, the Cummer Museum & Gardens, MOCA Jacksonville, and the Ritz Theater and Museum highlighting the museums’ active participation.
