U.S. Virgin Islands, August 20, 2024 — The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI), which serves as the Library of Congress’ Center for the Book, U.S. Virgin Islands affiliate, is representing the territory for the third straight year at the 2024 Library of Congress National Book Festival in Washington, DC this Saturday, Aug. 24. The event, which is free and open to the public, takes place from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
The festival’s theme this year, “Books Build Us Up,” explores how reading can help connect us and inform our lives. It’s through books that readers can develop strong bonds with writers and their ideas — relationships that open the entire world, real or imagined, to us all.
As the largest and most popular literary event of its kind in the US, this year's festival features more than 90 of the nation's best authors, poets and illustrators and is expected to attract more than 100,000 attendees.
"We invite all friends of the USVI and CFVI in the DC area, whether visitors, current or former residents and diaspora, to visit us at booth 4411 at the Roadmap to Reading exhibit, which is open until 6 p.m.," said CFVI President Dee Baecher-Brown.
Both of this year's USVI Great Reads authors will be featured at the Virgin Islands booth. Cadwell Turnbull, who wrote "The Lesson," will be signing copies of his book from 10-11 a.m. and Chanell Rohan, author of "Ziggy on the Rock," will sign copies of her book from 1-2 p.m.
For those who want to experience the Festival, but can't be there in person, a selection of programs will be livestreamed online and videos of all programs will be available shortly after the Festival. Visit loc.gov/bookfest for more information.
