IWIRC Announces 2021 Founders Awards Recipients

Tara Schellhorn and Aisling Dwyer Take Top Individual Honors

Outstanding Network Goes to the Carolinas Network

Stanardsville, VA – July 22, 2021- The International Women's Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation ("IWIRC") is pleased to announce the recipients of its 2021 Founders Awards. Tara Schellhorn will be awarded the Melnik Award for exceptional contributions by an IWIRC member.   Aisling Dwyer will receive the Fetner Award for exceptional contributions by an international IWIRC member. The Carolinas Network is the winner of the Ryan Award for outstanding IWIRC Network.

“There were many extraordinary award nominees in 2021 who’ve shown achievement, commitment and dedication to IWIRC through an exceptionally difficult pandemic year,” said Leyza Blanco, IWIRC Chair and Partner with Sequor Law in Miami. “The nominations were all deserving and remarkable, making choosing the winners all the more difficult. This year’s honorees are extraordinary and we are thrilled to be able to recognize these award recipients this year.”

“Tara gives 110% in everything she does and IWIRC has benefitted time and time again from her efforts,” stated her nominator. “When COVID hit and the world stopped, Tara Schellhorn immediately jumped into action, planning and transitioning many events into virtual events for IWIRC members. Juggling her work responsibilities and two small kids, Tara spent countless hours coming up with topics, locating speakers and overseeing all aspects of these virtual events. As a result of her hard work, IWIRC did not miss a step in providing social, educational and other programs to its members.”

Aisling Dwyer’s nominator shared that “Aisling has been involved in the IWIRC Woman of the Year in Restructuring (Asia) Award steering committee for the past three years. This initiative was conceived in 2018 to recognise women in the restructuring and insolvency industry in Asia who have inspired and skillfully led a restructuring team, provided creative solutions and innovative legal applications, showed exceptional leadership, and have made extraordinary contributions to the insolvency and restructuring professions.” She detailed the numerous way that “Aisling has been an integral part of the committee” in addition to offering glowing remarks about Aisling’s work with the IWIRC Asia conferences.

The Carolinas Network has “exemplified the very best of IWIRC over the past year,” shares Rebecca Redwine, Carolinas Network Board Chair. Redwine went on to say “I feel like this year, more than any other year, the Carolinas Network has contributed to IWIRC. We were the first network to reach out to our sister networks to do joint virtual networking events. This was prior to IWIRC having an initiative of ‘pairing networks’. The Carolinas Network immediately saw the benefit of connecting to other networks when everyone was stuck at home during the pandemic.”

All Founders Award recipients will be recognized in the Fall of 2021.
