Friends of the Library Book Sale - The Friends of the Library operate a Friends Shop which has over 4,000 used books for sale and is open during library business hours. The sale will take place on Friday, February 8 and Saturday, February 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Sunday, February 10 from 12:00 p.m. they will have their "bag day" where shoppers can fill a bag full of books for the low price of $4.  

Show me the Money Day - The Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency is hosting "Show me the Money Day" on Monday, February 11 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center, located at 32150 Dorsey St.  The event is free and includes tips on saving for the future, tax preparation, games and food.  For more information, please call (313)388-9799.

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location:

City Council
  • There will be a study session on Monday, February 11 at 6:00 p.m. regarding public safety dispatch, the cell tower sale and the recycling program. The meeting will take place in the Council Conference Room of Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.   
Tax Increment Finance Authority
  • The TIFA meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 12 at 8:00 a.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.  

Civil Service Commission
  • The Civil Service Commission will meet on Wednesday, February 13 at 4:00 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.  
Library Board
  • The Library Board will meet on Wednesday, February 13 at 7:00 p.m. at the Westland Public Library, located at 6123 Central City Pkwy.

Westland Youth Assistance Mentor Training - Do you want to make a difference in the lives of young people in our community?  Have you ever considered becoming a volunteer mentor.  The Westland Youth Assistance Program is holding free mentor training in February.  Trainings will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13 and Thursday, February 14 at Westland Youth Assistance, located at 36300 Warren Rd.  Dinner is provided for attendees.  For questions or to RSVP please contact Westland Youth Assistance at (734)467-7904.  

City Offices Closed in Observance of President's Day - On Monday, February 18 City Offices will be closed in observance of President's Day.  This includes the 18th District Court.  The Westland Public Library will remain open and trash and recycling pick up will not be affected by the closure.  Due to the holiday, the Westland City Council Meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 19.
