Press Release - Results of The Muslim Educational Trust's Ninth Annual Speech Tournament 2019
Tigard, Oregon, USA 02/13/2019  The Muslim Educational Trust (MET) is thrilled to announce the results of its Ninth Annual Speech Tournament for Oregon Islamic Academy Middle School Students. Under the umbrella of OMY, MET's Oregon's Muslim Youth Program, the Speech Tournament was inaugurated back in February 2011 with one goal in mind: to inspire our youth to shine with self-confidence, and thrive with great leadership and public speaking skills.

Speech class has been a critical component of this learning process. Teacher Julie Ahmed, OIA Speech/Debate and Social Studies Teacher, and Toastmasters Coach, has been mentoring and coaching the students since the beginning of the school year in preparation for this big day.  Our 6th-8th grade students will also be representing Oregon Islamic Academy at the Annual Valley Catholic Speech Tournament in the next few weeks, in shaa Allah (God willing). Sincere and special thanks to Teacher Julie for spearheading and leading this invaluable program at MET over the years!

We are very proud of all our student participants this year who delivered speeches that varied from serious to humorous to patriotic to excerpts from their favorite books or poems. Please click HERE for a full list of speech selections by our students, which ranged from serious to humorous to patriotic, and spanned from excerpts from the students' favorite books or favorite speeches by public figures. The judges expressed awe and pride in all students' performances both within the elocution and the impromptu competitions.

Winners will be celebrated with their personalized trophies and also excerpts from their speeches at MET's Monthly Forum and Potluck Dinner on March 9, in shaa Allah (God willing),
