From the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, community service organizations, including charities, non-profits and Indigenous governing bodies, across Canada have shown impressive stamina and creativity in their response to the diverse and increasingly challenging needs of their communities.

To support the vital work done by these organizations, the Government of Canada invested $400 million in one-time funding to create the Community Services Recovery Fund.

The Community Services Recovery Fund is responding to what community service organizations, including charities, non-profits and Indigenous governing bodies, need and is supporting them as they adapt to the long-term.

As community service organizations, including charities, non-profits and Indigenous governing bodies, across Canada work to support recovery in their communities, the Community Services Recovery Fund will help them adapt and modernize their operations to grow their support in communities.

The Government of Canada is delivering the Community Services Recovery Fund through three National Funders – Canadian Red Cross, Community Foundations of Canada, and United Way Centraide Canada. The National Funders are distributing funding to eligible community service organizations, including charities, non-profits, and Indigenous governing bodies, providing services in communities across Canada.

Sara Riel Chief Executive Officer Tara Snider expressed, “Sara Riel is honoured to be a recipient of the Community Recovery Services Fund, chosen by the Canadian Red Cross. This funding will help provide additional training opportunities to all Sara Riel staff and enable Sara Riel to better serve mental health and addictions needs in Winnipeg.”

The Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, Jenna Sudds, added, “I am continually impressed by the passion, dedication, and creativity of community service organizations, like Sara Riel, Mental Health and Addictions. I am equally proud the Government of Canada has supported their important work through the Community Services Recovery Fund. By investing in these organizations and their projects we can help to create a more just and equitable society, where everyone has opportunities to succeed. I look forward to seeing the positive impact of this investment in Winnipeg over the years to come.”
