6th Street Playhouse presents
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

SANTA ROSA, CA (February 6, 2020) 6th Street Playhouse presents Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street from March 6 through April 5, 2020 in the G.K. Hardt Theatre.

Patrick Nims, who recently directed 6th Street’s production of Oliver!, will direct this deliciously macabre musical. Audiences around the world have been shocked and delighted by this story of a revenge-seeking barber and his meat pie-baking associate.

This Tony and Olivier Award winner boasts music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Hugh Wheeler wrote the book based on the 1973 play of the same name by Christopher Bond.

Pedro Rodelas stars in the title role, and Daniela Innocenti-Beem co-stars as his partner Mrs. Lovett.

Also starring are Andre Amarotico* as Anthony Hope, Gillian Eichenberger as Johanna, Larry Williams as Judge Turpin, Erik Weiss as Adolfo Pirelli, Brandy Noveh as Beggar Woman, Noah Sternhill as Tobias Ragg, and Dominic Williams as Beadle Bamford.

The LA Times described it as “…a glorious musical thriller set in a society that has become morally unhinged.”

Sweeney Todd is one of musical theater’s darker works, and one of its most popular. And why not?  Who doesn’t love a good ghost story / urban legend? Ghost stories serve several very important purposes.  They provide an enjoyable adrenaline rush that helps us learn to manage stressful moments IRL. They teach us what not to do (“don’t open that door!”), and they remind us of the darker side of life and human nature.
