6th Street Playhouse to Present It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play
Live-Streaming Nov 27-29, 2020 and On-Demand Dec 1-Jan 1, 2021

SANTA ROSA, CA (November 16, 2020) 6th Street Playhouse—Jared Sakren, Artistic Director—presents It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, adapted by Joe Landry and directed by Carl Jordan.

6th Street’s initial foray into live-streaming theater with The Turn of the Screw in October (now available On Demand until Thanksgiving) met with a resounding public response, so the production team has great hopes for the success of this holiday classic, adapted from the film It’s a Wonderful Life, starring James Stewart. After collecting fantastic feedback from patrons we can’t wait to show you how we are improving the experience and quality of our virtual shows.

It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play is based on the classic holiday film with a clever twist thrown in: the story is staged as a live radio broadcast. Actors portray numerous characters, and sound effects are done through Foley artists. It’s a Wonderful Life is about the life of George Bailey, a generous and well-meaning man who has become too downcast and tired to continue living. It will take help from a lovable angel to show George what life would be like if he wasn’t born for George to have a change of heart and understand the true spirit of the holidays.

Our production stars Jeff and Jenifer Coté, as Jake Laurents and Sally Applewhite. This is the first time this real life married couple has appeared on stage playing a married couple and they are bringing a special magic to the show in this unique way. Also appearing are Playhouse favorites Serena Elize Flores, as Lana Sherwood, Scottie Woodard as Freddie Filmore, and Trevor Hoffman, as Harry “Jazzbo” Heywood. Trevor will also serve as our thrilling Foley sound effects artist in this production. We anticipate our audiences will find enormous excitement and humor watching him manage all the various physical objects (doors, bells, clackers, boxes of keys and coins) he’ll be using to provide the sound effects.

In a continued effort to maintain the safest environment for our artists, most of our rehearsals are taking place on Zoom, but live rehearsals (with masks and social distancing) are scheduled as opening night nears. The only actors rehearsing together unmasked are our dynamic married couple, Jeff and Jen Cote’, as they are in a pod together. Other actors will be socially distanced during the live-stream and all actors will wear masks up until the moment the show begins.

The four-camera setup is being helmed by Jared Sakren, artistic director at 6th Street, who reports that his adventure with live-streaming is proving to be extremely satisfying creatively and professionally. While live performances are always rewarding, this new medium is exciting and inspiring new opportunities for creativity.

The production dates are: Live streaming Nov. 27-29, 2020, and On Demand Dec. 1-Jan. 1, 2021.On Demand Tickets will go on sale Nov. 5, 2020.

Ticket pricing is $15-$50, depending on the number of people in the household viewing the event. For more information, go to https://6thstreetplayhouse.vbotickets.com/event/Its_a_Wonderful_Life_A_Radio_Play/47727
