Applications open for ColibríMX, a local scholarship program for underserved immigrants, launched in partnership between the Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego and the Metropolitan Area Advisory Committee on Anti-Poverty of San Diego County, Inc. (MAAC)
Following the launch of their partnership late last year, the Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego and the Metropolitan Area Advisory Committee on Anti-Poverty of San Diego County, Inc. (MAAC) have launched the ColibríMX scholarship.
Applications are open now and will close Wednesday, July 8, 2020.
“We believe in the power of education as the best tool for social mobility,” stated Consul General
“And we also believe that it is in the interest of the whole community to make sure its youth has access to higher education. Our hope is that ColibríMX serves as a way to tell young Mexican American and Latino students in the area of San Diego: we support you, we have your back.”
The ColibríMX Scholarship aims at serving first-time college students enrolling in the fall 2020 semester with a GPA of 2.5 or higher and who can demonstrate Mexican or Latino origin, financial need and residence in San Diego County. The goal is to deliver grants of 1,000 dollars each for the fall 2020 cycle. For more information on eligibility requirements and to apply visit

MAAC CEO Arnulfo Manriquez stated, “Now, more than ever, we want to support and encourage a new generation of leaders in their pursuit of higher education. They will be the beacons of hope, strength, and perseverance we need to enact change in our communities, our region, and across the world. We are thrilled to offer these scholarships in partnership with the Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego.”

. The ColibríMX Scholarship Program aims at raising enough funds to award between 40 and 70 scholarships to students pursuing a college degree. Award recipients for the 2020-21 academic year will be announced on August 14, 2020.
